VPN disabled on my Pixel 7

Okay, so after researching, I have discovered a couple of things. Google Fi VPN and Google one VPN are 2 separate services, obviously. Google one, you have to pay for. Google Fi, is free on the Pixel 7 and Pro. I had it all set up before, but somehow it got erased, probably with an update. So. Open Google Fi. Scroll to privacy and security. Turn on the slider that says protect your online activity. Go back to your regular phone settings. Go to network and internet. Scroll down to VPN section and the Google Fi FREE VPN should be there to turn on or off. This worked for me, maybe it will for you.

Same issue here on beta. The only way to get it to connect is UNINSTALL Google One app and install it again. You will be able to connect but it won’t connect again if you decide to disconnect. So the only way to use it is to keep re-installing Google One app. This is absurd lmao.

Edit: it also works when going to app setting and deleting data and re-logging in. Deleting DATA, not cache. Still pain in the ass though.

so it is not just me, are you on the latest android version?

Same. Contacted Google one helpdesk through the chat but after an hour still have no clue what causing that issue. I’m on latest beta.

I have the same issue. Although when this happens, you can go to the app settings for the Google One app and “Force Stop” it instead of restarting your phone.

google support is the worse I have ever come across. The dude I chatted with was so dumb and ignorant. zero knowledge on what to do and just wasted my time.

That’s how they advertised it, and it was working for a bit. But now its giving me the same error as everyone else here, to make sure I’m signed into the right account, I’m on the beta btw.
I think the upgrade is just for multiple devices to access the VPN. But that was my initial thought too was they were making me upgrade all of a sudden.

Agreed, this seems to temporarily work. And it’s one of the possible fixes available. Fix Google One VPN not working on Pixel [Root/Non-Root]

Check this link:

I’ve done that. Didn’t work.

It doesn’t work for me. On QPR2 beta 3

I’m actually on the beta. I assume that isn’t an issue?

Go into the settings for the app, under VPN there’s an “enable vpn” link go through that then try again, worked for me after doing that.

I went back to public release from the beta using flash.android.com its the only way back it does erase all data. But improved device performance 110%

Unrelated, I’m in the UK and our phones are unlocked, I just haven’t updated yet. I’m just adding to the data with the fact that it’s not a problem exclusive to the January firmware.

Yeah, I unlock the bootloader and update it to “13.0.0 (TQ1A.230205.002, Feb 2023)” version. Also, I root my Pixel 7 Pro to enable 32-bit applications support.

But Google One never says anything about root and unlock bootloader at its TOS.

I know there are some magisk modules that can turn any phone into Pixel model, and this should be considered.

Whoa just checked. No good with Jan QPR2. Only tried once before with Dec QPR2 and it was fine.

This worked for me. You can’t just enable it in phone settings>network & internet >VPN. You have to go into the Google Fi app > Privacy & security > then select “Protect your online activity”

do you know of a way to spoof the google one app? To make it think is not rooted??

Yeah, looks like this Jan update for the beta doesn’t work with the VPN. Damnit. Might have to roll back to stable, but that means a full wipe…
