Tried googling but i couldnt get a straight answer. I have pia updated fully but everytime I go to ipleak it says i have a DNS leak and IDK how to fix that. Any help would be much appreciated
Change your DNS servers to the pia DNS servers. By default your computer probably uses your router for DNS. The router then forwards the request along to whatever DNS server it uses. Since the router itself isn’t using pia, your DNS requests that go through it aren’t using pia either.
This page gives the DNS server addresses. It also talks about DNS leak protection. It says you can use any DNS server and it will be routed through the VPN but that isn’t true for when you use your router as a DNS server.

In the PIA app there’s a configuration option to force the use of PIA DNS servers.
You could run your own DNS resolver. Check out r/pihole
Does it only say you have the DNS leak in firefox, what about chrome?
is this desktop app or the extension?
Check your Firefox settings
It could be due to Firefox enabling the encrypted dns by default now
Hi,
Late to this, but figured out my issue. The DNS leak test showed that I was using Comcast/Xfinity DNS - which is my ISP. Long story short, it was Firefox’s DoH settings. I changed to CloudFlare and the leak test then showed that. I disabled DoH then the leak test only showed PIA’s DNS server.
whats the setting in the app ive looked through all the options and cant figure out which it would be cuz im dumb. Under network settings it says my Name Server is PIA DNS
Windows 10, firefox. Everythings updated to its current version
which option and how do i configure it i have looked at all of them and cant figure out what does what
i dont have chrome installed
i dont know what the difference is. I open the PIA program on my computer and then turn on the VPN with the big power button on the little widget that pops up
I don’t use the app so I can’t really say. You could try contacting their support.
I posted a link for changing the servers in your windows settings. You go to your TCP/IP settings and change the DNS servers to 209.222.18.222 and 209.222.18.218. that should work regardless of your settings in the app.
Try turn on all the extra privacy/security settings in the extension.
Click in the PIA icon (near the clock), then click in the 3 dots on the upper right corner and click “settings”. Click in “Network” and in “Name Servers” drop down list choose “PIA DNS”.
Then ipleak should show the same ip as your VPN IP (on the bottom right of the big green “power button”).
any other browser then?
VPN IP (on the bottom right of the big green “power button”)
Are you shore ipleak isn’t detecting your VPN IP (on the bottom right of the big green “power button”) instead of your real IP (on the left bottom)?
