im confused you dont have pia vpn? It’s a program i downloaded that when i double click on the start menu option a little widget comes up. Idk if thats an app or a program or an extension or what but it’s what I use on my desktop. Now, if I select “set custom DNS” in the drop down menu under Name Servers in Network, I get a pop up where I can enter in a Primary DNS and a Secondary DNS (optional). Is that where I’d put those strings of numbers?
is that under connection or network
just checked, no leak w microsoft edge. Am I good to keep going about my business as usual, or should I use microsoft edge instead of firefox from now on when using my VPN?
Yes cuz i specifically make my new IP mexico city so i wont get confused about that lmao
I have PIA but I use openvpn on the command line to connect instead of the PIA app. Mostly just a personal preference thing.
Setting custom DNS in the app isn’t going to help. The app already defaults to the servers you want but for some reason they aren’t being used. Can you follow the second link I posted (the Microsoft.com one) and change your windows DNS servers per their instructions there? Change them to the two numbers I posted.
If that doesn’t work, some other posters have suggested trying a different browser. For some people Firefox will use DNS over HTTPS. These requests should still go through the VPN along with the rest of your traffic so I don’t think they would be a leak. But maybe a DNS leak tester would falsely identify them as a leak. Or maybe they truly are a leak and I’m missing something. You can try using something like Google chrome. Or try disabling DNS over HTTPS inside of Firefox
I think it’s possibly just Firefox DNS over HTTPS | Firefox Help
you can try to ‘opt-out’ and see what happens: Firefox DNS over HTTPS | Firefox Help
So I tried microsoft edge and there was no leak.
Word. For whatever reason firefox is just not working now with my VPN on but edge is, ill check that out once im done
Oh good, you can forget about those DNS settings I suggested then. Just follow the Mozilla link I posted for instructions to turn off DNS over HTTPS. That should get you fixed up. Or just use edge if you want moving forward.
