What VPN would you suggest for torrenting (2021)

I did a quick Google and I found a three year old post of someone asking this same question here. (I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the most common question asked here, sorry). I just want to know whether the landscape has changed since then?

I’ve been torrenting for a while which here in Sweden is usually fine even without a VPN. But due to some recent stuff for me personally I want to get a VPN.

I have 3 active subscriptions, to Mullvad, TorGuard and NordVPN. Mullvad’s really the only one I’m using regularly, and it’s the one I’d recommend if your VPN use case is all torrenting. Nicely done port-forwarding with Mullvad.

As for the debate about “which country should you torrent from” – I’m in California and generally torrent as if I’m from Canada. But I feel secure enough with Mullvad that I torrent from US servers from time to time with no particular worry.

I would like to suggest you can try NordVPN for torrenting. Because it is working well for me. But still, I will suggest you can compare the list of all the best VPNs for torrenting along with features, pros and cons. All these VPNs are giving lots of servers, better speed and many more.

I use SurfShark. It’s fairly inexpensive and works well.

most people in this sub are probably going to suggest, Mullvad and windscribe.

But most people buy a VPN and then use a server in their own country from america, UK, etc… which is basicly pointless. as your from sweden you’re pretty lucky anyway with your servers and privacy laws.

They’re all pretty much the same.

The only question is which one you trust the most. That’s it.

If you’re in Sweden I’d suggest you go for Mullvad. But hey, that’s just me.

Edit:

My main reasons for Mullvad would be:
Lots of servers, cheap, good speed, lots of anonymous payment options.

If they restore net neutrality, will it be better for us? Will we not have to use a VPN?

Should I unsubscribe from NordVPN and go onto Mullvad? I use VPNS mostly for torrenting and sometimes just for safety reasons

But most people buy a VPN and then use a server in their own country from america, UK, etc… which is basicly pointless

How is that pointless?

Yeah, I’ve had a cop just straight tell me that they don’t care about pirated movies, games, etc.

I don’t know how common it is around the world but here even the most moral and non-rebelious guy you know has tormented at least a game or a couple movies. And it seems to be getting even more common with the rise of way too many streaming services (like on a global scale it seems)

What a strange thing to comment in r/VPNTorrents

Nord’s reputation on reddit has taken a dive over the last year or more, mostly (I think) over shady and aggressive marketing tricks. The software is pretty good and stable, and probably the fastest torrenting VPN without port forwarding. I think of Nord as the best all-around VPN for torrenting, streaming and gaming. I’m just a torrenter and really like Mullvad’s implementation of port-forwarding. Tho several/many VPNs do port forwarding, they’re all set up a bit differently, and Mullvad was a game-changer for my qbittorrent usage, I connect to a noticeably higher percentage of seeders now.

me saying this is not 100% true for every vpn.

say you’re using a VPN in america, UK or some other country with crapy privacy laws… if you’re connected to switzerland and the US government asked to see whats going on in that server, the swiss can say “f off”. if you are connected to a server in america and the US government asked to see the server they would have to comply. you would have to hope they didn’t keep logs which in most cases is just promise.

Why would the police care that you’re pirating movies? It’s the copyright holders who care and send letters to your ISP

Sorry, that was really rambley.

It’s good you’re getting a VPN but by the sounds of it, you’re risk level is pretty low.

If you don’t mind me asking, what are you using port-forwarding for? Does the average torrenting user need to worry about port-forwarding?

It doesn’t matter where the server is located. It’s the location of the VPN provider’s head office that makes the difference.

Very few VPN’s are based in North America. For example, SufrShark is located in the British Virgin Islands.

Or copyright trolls with “per scalp” contracts from the copyright holders.

Yeah, but didn’t a guy get arrested in Denmark for having pirated a huge amount of movies like half a year ago?
