Using Synology Router as a VPN Client

Hello, I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this for a few weeks now, any help is appreciated.

I have a Synology RT6600ax (home) and a WRX560 (remote).

My aim is rather than installing a client/ agent on phones and Mac/windows devices, to do this at the router level so every device on the remote network would be on the home network and route through to the internet using the same external IP as my home network.

This helps me access SMB shares and other platforms hosted on my NAS etc, however, when I put in my .ovpn configuration in to the router it does not connect to my home network as a client at all.

I don’t understand why the router doesn’t act as a client, however IOS/ Windows devices it works on.

For context: I run OpenVPN on a raspberry Pi as it has more features than Synology’s VPN server. ‘Namely authenticating through AES-256-bit encryption’ and ability to authenticate the VPN servers CA.
