Is there something I need to do for wifi hotspot tunneling?

I don’t think there is anything you can do. AFAIK VPN apps on Android can’t handle traffic from the phone’s wifi hotspot/tethering.

Have you checked hotspot settings? On LineageOS Android 9 here I have option in hotspot settings called “Allow clients to use VPNs” which does exactly what it says.
If you have root you could probably set proper routing rules to do this manually…

(Might need to adjust IPs in those commands to correct hotspot range on your device)

The only bug I’ve found with it is that you can only use full tunnel with it - using a tunnel that tunnels only specific IPs or ranges doesn’t work properly and all hotspots clients are unable to connect to everything else.

OMG this would be so cool. You would be able to carry secure gateway everywhere with you, so you can get to your wireguard vpn from borrowed laptop without having to set it up.

What about installing wireguard on the tablet?

I’m looking for this one as well. I need my HotSpot Clients on Android phone, to have access to VPN network that the Android phone is connected to. In Wireguard setting there is an option to exclude/include specific apps, that can have access to tunneled network. I guess, WreGuard needs support and encouragement to implement this in future versions.

Download VPN Hotspot from the play store. It will require root to work.
