Thought I’d test Mullvad for a month. Speed tests just done on my 1000Mbps connection.
No VPN: 943.38Mbps.
Mullvad local server: 346.99Mbps
Is this a known issue with such a drastic difference?

346 MBPs is still really really fast. It’s honestly impressive mullvad has that kind of bandwidth.
The vast majority of people don’t reach those speeds without a vpn.
I had the opposite when I was on 1Gbps. Off 945.31 on 888.92 I put a screenshot up I think. That was to a server in london. The only VPN to ever give me that sort of speed before was Astrill who are $30 a month
You forgot to mention which VPN protocol you use.
The WireGuard protocol is much lighter than the OpenVPN protocol, thus you will experience much higher speeds with the WireGuard protocol.
Also depends on the processor in your computer or router (whatever is doing the encryption) and whether it has AES-NI extension
I have never experienced bandwidth throttling with Mullvad, can saturate my 1Gbps connection easily (I use Wireguard on Mikrotik router).
I’ve never gotten above like 300 on my gigabit connection either
can you help me seed my collection of hentai with this speeds?
As I stated before as soon as I disable Mullvad I have the full speed of my ISP again.
So yes, IMHO Mullvad is the only one causing speed drops.
It would be useful to know what you are using to perform your speed tests. Then we could run tests using the same methodology and actually have results that have a chance of being useful for comparisons.
My two closest servers:
Without VPN 16.09 Mbps
Seacaucus, NJ 8.05 Mbps
New York City 7.87 Mbps
(On Android, WG, Obfuscation ON, QRT: Auto)
Turning off WG Obfuscation and Quantum Resistant Tunnel yields 9.99 Mbps)
Sppedtest dot net was used.
Depends lots of factors. But let’s begin with… do you know wireguard/OVPN speed limits?
I get 570mbps with VPN on and 600mps with it off I use wireguard I use a VPN router
It depends on a lot of factors. Server, server location, server congestion, protocol, ISP etc. Naturally you will always lose some bandwidth when connecting through a vpn.
On my pc, I get roughly 450/500mbit with VPN on. We have 500/500.
Pictures are before & after VPN on my s24 ultra
It depends on the sever you are currently using.
For me the speed is also somewhat annoying. I tested various servers at the location I want to use until I found a server providing approximately the same speed as my regular connection.
After a while the speed goes down again. When my regular speed is e.g. 300 MBit via Mullvad I only get like 50 MBit.
So I have to test again which server is faster now and switch to another one.
This happens again and again.
Why don’t most people reach those speeds , without VPN ?
I’m new in your subreddit.
WireGuard was the protocol
Was using wireguard protocol and my router is an Asus GT-AXE16000
Probably depends on your location/server. I have 1 Gbps connection too, but most of the time I don’t notice any difference when I have mullvad on. At least 700Mbps, and that’s on a bad day.
