Really Bad Experience With ProtonVPN

ProtonVPN doesn’t work on most websites anymore. There’s always laggy connection which requires you to disconnect and re-connect again. Twitter sometimes works, and sometimes doesn’t, but most importantly, I bought a VPN subscription for streaming mostly, and Disney+ just doesn’t work with Proton.

It’s such a shame to have such a disappointing experience with ProtonVPN as it’s known to be one of the better ones out there, and I’ve had good experience with other Proton products.

Can you please contact the support team? If you did already, can you share your ticket number please?

Well I’m happily watching Disney+ with Proton VPN as I type.

Which country are you trying to connect? Make sure to read which countries are supported by ProtonVPN servers for streaming services. That should help you!

Disney+ is working with UK and NL servers, especially newly added ones have no issues.

Lag? Proton is much better than the competitors, with less captchas.

Honestly, my experience is quite similar. When it works, it’s a great VPN… But sometimes it will just become extremely slow or not work at all until I disconnect and reconnect again. And I’m talking about normal websites. Compared to my old VPN, ProtonVPN so far has been quite disappointing.

Are you on the free or a paid plan?

I haven’t had really connection problems except with the F1 TV app and the KPN TV app, but I suspect media companies belong to a special breed.

OP might need to check with customer support if they are doing something strange to csuse this. For thr past month I’ve been bingewatching Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime with the VPN always on with no trace of lag - even during the grand final when Proton’s network was likely saturated with people watching the game.

Captchas were getting troublesome a couple of months ago, but I was getting those when I tried with the VPN off as well, and a change of browser or server usally did the trick anyway. Over the past couple of weeks either Proton has tweaked something, the new servers are doing their job, or Cloudflare has started to chill out because they scarcely pop up at all any more.

I have to disconnect and reconect everyday and i got a 4070 with blazing fast wifi and ethernet connection and it still doesnt work!!!

My experience with proton vpn:

- Vpn stops working while I’m using it

- Vpn completely prevents me from connecting (even after closing & re-opening)

- Vpn connects me to far away countries, and i get slower internet speed
(don’t get me started on ‘‘oh you can connect to another server’’ no i can’t. It will continue connecting me to the same server or to japan.)

+ Having to delete, download & log in each time to fix these are just… too exhausting at this point

I had the same experience when it comes to streaming, they are claiming it’s working but it don’t. Overall another vpn is much better.

I connected to Canada and based on https://protonvpn.com/support/watch-disneyplus-with-vpn/ it should work, but on Disney+ I get a “Oops something went wrong” and as soon as I turn the VPN off, it works fine.

I used to be with NordVPN before, and I’m fully aware of their previous breach etc., but I never had any lag issues with NordVPN.

Beside I do not have Disney but I used netflix and hulu without any issues same with Youtube or other platforms. And even in secure core mode and with stealth protocol as default

Yes I’m mad at Proton because if it’s not supposed to work with Disney+ and there’s nothing they can do about it, then they need to stop advertising that it will work with Disney+ https://protonvpn.com/support/watch-disneyplus-with-vpn/

My previous VPN worked with all streaming platforms.

Paid plan, and use the servers listed https://protonvpn.com/support/watch-disneyplus-with-vpn/ :woman_shrugging:t2:

Surprisingly I’ve never had any issues with too many Captchas! They appear once in a while but it’s never been annoying.

Disney plus works just fine for me too it’s HBO Max that needs to be split tunnel away

Mullvad, it was my VPN before I went for the Unlimited plan for Proton. Besides having more sites being blocked in some regions (in that point Proton is better), I never had any issues with Mullvad.

Ok. Strange. Not having much experience with Disney+. If you use Android or Windows, you can use Split Tunneling. If you use iOS(Pad) you are out of luck (as I understand from the FAQ, it technically isn’t possible… I hope it will be possible some time in the future, because I there I need it most for watching media).

On the “doesn’t work on most websites anymore”: do you type in the name of the websites yourself, or do you normally click on a link which uses some Google tracking?I normally type in the names of websites directly, but this morning I clicked on a link and the website wouldn’t load because it went through Google first and wouldn’t load.

Mullvad is a good VPN unless you want it for streaming.
