PSA: free trial does not have cancellation option

Hello. Just thought I’d share (vent?) my experience trying NordVPN.

I signed up for their free 7-day trial via Android/Google Pay.

By the last day I had decided I didn’t want to use their service. After Googling cancellation instructions for NordVPN via their website and Google Pay, I concluded that there was absolutely no method at either end to cancel the trial. None of the instructions applied to me; I simply didn’t have a “Cancel” subscription button on either platform. I ended up having to contact their customer service to cancel the trial. I find this business tactic really shady.

Yes, the issue I’m experiencing right now, which is the lack of apparent ability to cancel. I don’t mean to be rude but this is shady.

Hmm, if you signed up via Google Play you should be directing your frustration towards them.

It’s just a way in retaining customers, lots of companies operate like this. However the agent didn’t seem to push back once you let him know of your frustration, so good on them.

I agree an easy method to cancel should be available. I would have and do lookup how to cancel before signing up for any website I would strongly suggest in future finding how to cancel before making a payment and not doing so on a phone if possible. Leaving the cancellation to the last second probably made you more frustrated making the situation worse.

Thanks for posting, was running in to the same issue myself. I agree, should provide a means to cancel trial or auto-renewal. At least customer service was quick to sort it out.

I did. I was really surprised to find that there wasn’t a *cancel subscription" button in the Manage section in Google Pay.
