Hello, I am on MacOS Monterrey. I wanted to delete my current ProtonVPN app reinstall and log in with a new account. When deleting the app with app cleaner, removing 4 extra files found in ~/Library/cache ~/Library/Application Support. While also deleting the two Network extensions within System Preferences, Network. When reinstalling ProtonVPN I open the app and have the same account logged in and setup. My question is where is the file I need to delete my user cache and effectively have a “fresh install” like I was downloading ProtonVPN for the first time and logging in?
While likely not the answer you’re looking for, Mac has had a bad habit of not having clean uninstall for well most of its life. When I ran Mac the best thing I got that helped with at least a more proper clean up was using https://www.appzapper.com/.
To clean the user data on Windows
( I see this is for Mac OS but it is the only reddit result that comes up when googling “clear proton vpn app cache”. additionally, all other results are from proton’s own website, and none of them are about the VPN (???) )
So, on Windows, delete the app’s folder:
[home folder] /AppData/Local/ProtonVPN
Then start the app again. (You’ll have to log in again.)
Maybe you can just log off and log in with the new account?
When you’re in library trying searching inside the library directory anything that is related to Proton. Any files hidden under any other folders will also pop up.
Crazy you mention this because while uninstalling I also used AppCleaner(very similar) to uninstall ProtonVPN.
My problem is I don’t understand why ProtonVPN isn’t giving me a clean uninstall and leaving its grummy little files amidst my computer after deletion. Quite annoying if you ask me.
I did this. I went to Library and hit search for all files in Library. Found and deleted all files associated to ProtonVPN.
Maybe if you contact support they can guide you through. To their contact form.
