Nordvpn blocked on school wifi, any help?

I got nordvpn but at school it fails to connect. But surprisingly hotspot shield works.

Things I’ve tried:

  • Obfuscated servers
  • NordLynx
  • OpenVPN TCP
  • IKEv2
  • Onion over VPN
  • P2P
  • This article
  • Changing my DNS to 1.1.1.1

I’ve honestly run out of ideas but any help would be greatly appreciated.

perhaps your MAC address has been blacklisted - tell Windows to use a random address each time, or use another network card / dongle / port

Have you verified your install of NordVPN works off campus? Go to a cafe or tether your phone?

Same thing happened in my college wifi. The nordvpn app seems to use hostname (like jp104.nordvpn.com) which can be blocked using dns sinkhole. I would suggest you to try setting up vpn manually and entering the ip address of the server directly. You may also try pinging the servers ip address before connecting using vpn. If pinging works then the vpn might also be able to connect.

To get the ip address u can use any dns lookup tool and enter a servers hostname which you can find within the app. Like US #8001 would be us8001.nordvpn.com

could be firewall or ports are blocked by the school?

Tried using the the Dedicated IP server?
My university blocks everything else at the moment, besides that.

My friends also reported having the same problem with nordvpn with a brand new laptop trying to connect. Also, without nordvpn the internet works fine, although some websites are still blocked. So I don’t think it is a problem with my MAC address being blocked.

have you tried changing your DNS addresses or using Nord’s SmartDNS?

edit: in fact, it might be that Nord’s DNS is being blocked - try disabling it if enabled and setting another provider for the network adapter (you may want to try a few)

PritunL is easy to build. Tutorials out the wazoo for most any provider.

yeah I’ve had a custom dns of 1.1.1.1

maybe they have blacklisted all of Nord’s IP addresses (they are publically available after all)

all I can suggest now is keep trying with obfuscated and Tor options
