Need Help with ProtonVPN Auto Connect on MacBook Pro

Hey everyone,

I’m having an issue with ProtonVPN on my MacBook Pro and could use some help. I want the app to connect automatically to the VPN when I start my MacBook Pro. However, when I set it to connect automatically, I always receive an error message stating that I am not connected to the Internet. I think this happens because the app starts faster than the Wi-Fi connection on my Mac.

I’ve made sure that both my Mac and the ProtonVPN app are on the latest versions. The MacBook is brand new and running the latest software updates, but the issue persists.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on how to resolve it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Our team is aware of this issue and working on improving the behavior in the upcoming period, although we currently don’t have an ETA or any additional details to share. We’ve made sure to document your report as well.

The same here. Proton is aware of this issue.
Additionally, there is an issue with automatic re-connect after sleep…

When I start the Macbook, I see below. There is a question mark at the bottom of the bar, I always have to click on it, and then it seems as if it is being reinstalled…

Okay, thank you very much. It would be great if it could be set so that it automatically connects to the VPN when using public Wi-Fi.

Just to be sure, are you aware of issue with re-establishing connection after sleep (Macbook)?

It is usual behaviour when no internet after sleep mode, though application still shows as connected

This issue has been on the VPN client on MacOS for over two years, and it still hasn’t been fixed.

This seems to be a common frustration for MacOS users. All you need to do is search this issue on the subreddit and you’ll see 5+ threads about it

Its unfortunate to see Proton building new products when common frustrations like these aren’t being addressed

Yes, it’s a documented issue.
