Issues Using ProtonVPN on Mac Without Disrupting iCloud

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed that ProtonVPN seems to interfere with iCloud’s basic functionalities on my Mac. For example, when ProtonVPN is active, syncing updates for contacts, iMessage, and other core features stops working. As soon as I disable ProtonVPN, these iCloud features are restored immediately, so it’s clear the VPN is causing the issue.

For now, I’ve had to stop using ProtonVPN on my Mac because it limits access to essential iCloud services.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Do you have any tips or best practices for using ProtonVPN on Mac without losing iCloud functionality?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

fyi: I’m using a Macbook Pro M1 on macOS 15.1

Try Allow Lan or turn off kill switch if on. Maybe try changing protocols as well.
