Is the metal plan worth it?

since travel insurance was removed from Premium and I realised I trade more than 10 times/month, I upgraded to Metal. I compare it against the Ultra plan and cannot really make sense of the difference. Ultra feels like for someone who travels really A LOT, and doesn’t bother explaining when they want to cancel their trips/events. That’s truly for privilege.

Most of the benefits are similar to Metal, which doesn’t really justify 3-4 times the fee :anxious_face_with_sweat:

Looking for everyday use, prob not interested in the trading part

There is no interest on the Swedish accounts what I can see

Yup! And tinder gold too

Yeah, you can have nordvpn even with Premium plan, with standard nordvpn subscription. Metal gives you the Plus sub = nordvpn + nordpass. I use bitwarden anyway so I don’t care about nordpass.

yes of course, I put Revolut’s subscription on top of my private nordvpn account, your private account would then halt and resume when your revolut’s one expires.

Say if your private sub expires on 2025 and you activate revolut’s nordvpn today, then you will see that the expiry date changed to 2027 (by default revolut’s nord has 2 years subscription I think)

Yeah it seems in Germany we need to upgrade to ultra to get anything.

That’s strange I just looked at plans in Germany. Looks like plans in most countries before the recent revamping of prices and perks. If premium was still 82 euros/yr and has travel insurance I’d probably have not gone Metal.

If you take advantage of one of NordVPNs 2 year packages no as Premium only get Standard NordVPN

NordVPN Standard (2 Yrs + 3 months free)

€102.33

Revolut Premium (12mth commitment):

€107.08

If renewing and somehow can’t find a waybto get the cheaper prices through NordVPN then yes as it would supoaebly be

NordVPN Standard (2 Yrs + 3 months free)

€223.83

Revolut Premium (12mth commitment):

€107.08

Although I would imagine NordVPN must give some discount to existing customers and or just make a new NordVPN account, use a new disposable card and get the new person offer again

for only nordvpn, I don’t think it’s worth it.

It doesn’t include personal liability or car hire excess. Personal liability you usually have it anyway from your bank or home insurance, car hire excess is quite niche.

Access to lounge prices between Premium and Metal are the same. Only ultra has free access to lounge.

true actually! I am going to downgrade so thanks!
the only thing I am worried about is the personal liability thing. That will come in handy if I destroy something or cause anything to anyone by accident while traveling.

only the purchase of the mobile device

I only just joined last week.

My first USD payment was good though. 100% funds received by recipient. Which was my main concern.

On the international payment / forex I should save 1500 a year compared to current method.OFX.

But the difference in fees from Metal to Ultra is about 250 a year.

So there’s only about a £90 shortfall of benefit between metal and ultra and that will made up with cashback and the benefits. So hopefully all good.

Well I’m using Revolut for investing Etf and US stocks, so I do exchange a lot of usd and therefore it makes more sense for me to get a premium subs. There I can get to exchange for free during work hours and 5 stock operations free per month. After doing the math for myself, I picked the premium option. Also keep in mind that every option comes with some free subscription such as NordVPN etc. If there are any of those that you would use or already are using, then it would be worth an upgrade.

In short, as I stated in my first reply, it really depends on your use. For example if you send a lot of money internationally, then you should even upgrade to Ultra to avoid all the transfer fees, or Metal could be worth if you travel to Non EU countries a lot and spend a lot of money there

You have to work it out for yourself. How much will it save you on exchange rates? How much are the other benefits worth to you?

Bundled apps you don’t use don’t save you money. Vacuous stuff like picsart isn’t worth anything to me. A Deliveroo subscription doesn’t really save much on Deliveroo orders. Headspace and Freeletics both have amazing reviews but I’ve not used either yet.

When I worked it out premium was well worth it for me, but any higher plan wasn’t. It depends how much you convert each month.

Revolut with a subscription can’t beat a free Wise account on exchange rates, although the difference is very small.

5% on groceries under awkward conditions. It’s not nothing.

Last year i had 130 euro returned to me only from metal .But i do pay only with this metal card. The big problem is , that you are also limited monthly on how much you can earn. I also did have 300 euro cashback from offers + stays using revolut

When was the travel insurance removed? I have seen no such communication. Is it only for a specific countrt?

yeah, Metal is definitely for someone who: does everything online with VPN, reads financial times every day, occasionally buys stocks, records his/her sleeps with Sleep Cycle, stays fit with freeletics, works remotely with wework (uh-oh, which has now gone), gets creative with picsart, and looks out for fun with tinder gold. And most importantly, spends big while travelling xD

If we’re able to use all these things, Metal subscription will feel like very cheap. Financial Times sub itself already costs almost 400 bucks/year.

I use the VPN, stock trading, sleep cycle and freeletics. I do read FT but I found a way to bypass paywall so don’t bother using FT sub.
