Looking to upgrade, does the benefits pay off the monthly subscription for it? Let me know your thought and experience!
If you’re traveling 2-3 times/yr and buy/sell stocks regularly, probably yes. These two alone make it a break-even.
Plus I use NordVPN, which usually costs 50$/yr.
Not really, premium gives you almost exactly the same, the only difference is the card.
For me premium is totally worth it since I earn in CZK and convert euros every month for expenses and investments. Any other service would cost too much so it’s a godsend for me.
Yes it’s worth it if you keep a high balance in the flexible account. It pays for itself.
This is how i made Revolut Metal paid itself. So I keep my wealth ditributed in some ETFs and some bonus deposits in my bank account. Additionally I liked to have something like 4K euro (20.000 Romanian Lei) in an economy account in my bank just in case, beside my current salary account.
With Revolut Metal I have access to savings With 3.75% pa interest. So I moved those 20.000 Lei from my economy bank account into Revolut Savings and I get yearly aprox 750 Lei from interest. The Revolut Metal subscribition in Romania is 590 Lei/year.
So I get all the Revolut Metal perks (travel insurance for family, priority support, cashbacks, unlimited exchanges, and a lot of free subscription that I don’t use) + 160 Lei per year for free.
To me yes and I can tell you what works for me personally.
-I have phone insurance which is a great benefit (accidental damage/theft/loss) - you have to buy the phone through Revolut account though
-Trip Delay/Baggage delay is awesome if you travel as one of these happening will mostly cover your yearly subscription. I got £210 from then when my plane got delayed. (also it works for trips within country of residence but it has to be 100 kms away from your home or overnight stay)
-Baggage theft/damage/loss
-Free medical emergency coverage which is awesome anywhere in the world
- car hire excess if you rent and damage a car
-personal liability (if you cause some damage or bodily injury to a third party.
- your spouse and children
Then, I get any currency I need instantly, no fees.
That’s what’s appealing to me.
Nice try Revolut manager
The best answer is: depends on how you’re going to use it. Perks are worth alone more than the metal subscription itself. But you may or may not be interested (Nord VPN, Tinder Gold, Financial Times and few useless ones).
Then the game changer for me is the savings account. But that’s different according to your country of residency.
In a nutshell I got it for the interest savings account. I run the numbers and it’s worth it for the following reasons (metal vs premium):
Increased interest income on the savings account (almost 1% in the GBP denominated one).
FT: I read the main news pretty much every day.
ClassPass: 10 credits p.m that complements and gives flexibility to my current gym membership.
There is also Cashback but it’s 0.1% in Europe (1% outside Europe) so it’s negligible to me.
Free 10 trades per month (haven’t used all of them tho).
Edit: NordVPN is also in premium so I’ve deleted it.
If you are exchanging a lot of currencies, then yes! Otherwise just stick to Standard
I live in Europe and move between countries pretty often, it works really well everywhere and I don’t have to worry about exchange fees, a minor nuance is the weekend exchange fee but once you get used to it you always have a backup of currency for the country you’re in.
Can’t recommend the payed plans due to the awful service from their new travel insurance provider… main point of my premium is for travel insurance. But it’s invalid due to shocking service - over a month in one tiny claim and they are ignoring me now
For me I’d say it does. I do travel a lot though (digital nomading) and I’ve tried other cards with good exchange rate (n26+wise) and revolut is still the best. I’d say you save around 0.5% if you change the money on weekdays.
Then I pay most accomodations with the card (1% cashback) and I try to use the card as much as possible due to the 1% cashback.
Plus if you use the subscription services it probably pays for itself:
Headspace - 60€/y.
Nordvpn - not too expensive if you get a multiple year subscription but still you get that for free.
Tinder gold - not sure how much is it but say 60€?
Just with these benefits I’m already sort of breaking even on metal. Plus you get the cool card, the insurance (which I don’t plan to use since I have a better one but hey you never know).
I usually book stays with booking.com but I’ve been able to save some money booking through the revolut app with the 10% cashback, even though revolut’s hotel engine is Expedia I believe. Most of the times the price is better or the same in booking but I was able to save maybe 60-70€ in multiple stays in Japan.
It looks like I’m advertising for revolut but I’ve looked at other subscriptions like n26 plus? and it doesn’t come close. Wise doesn’t have a subscription service and even though their exchange rate is theoretically better they charge a % fee in every exchange.
The 800€ withdrawal limit is nice when staying in countries with heavy cash usage.
Haven’t used the 10 free trades per month, commissions are already minimal in brokers like degiro and IBKR but maybe I’ll give it a shot.
Yes. If like me you send a lot of money and the also get pro for the cashback.
I’ve gone ultra.
Well it depends, on how much you spend and how often you leave your home country. If you leave and spend a lot, then you can do the math and see if it actually is worth an upgrade. But for the most of the people it’s definitely not worth it.
And yes, the metal card is super cool but even that is not worth the upgrade imo
For me yes , i do spend a lot and used my revolut card as the main card for some years. The cashback is small but works well for me.
I think it does, considering I get higher savings interest, Financial Times Digital, and NordVPN.
You guys saying metal and premium offer so many things, what if the OP was from Germany? We get nothing
I pay for Ultra and I’ve found that I’m actually not losing anything. Just the interest from savings held on Revolut covers half the tab and the value I get through a free VPN covers the rest.
If you trade or save ultra is the way to go
Worth it for the interest (4.00% in the UK right now) as long as you have enough money in there. (lol)
