I don’t think the whole PSN thing is the scandal people are claiming it to be.
First, the steam store page very clearly states that a PSN account is needed to play the game. Plenty of games do this, any Microsoft first party game for example requires it, a lot of the f2p games require it like warframe for example.
The main issue here is that people where PSN is not available managed to purchase and play the game. This is bad. But we actually have no idea how region locking works and if it was even possible for Arrowhead/SIE to do via steam. There’s not any information on this topic on Steamworks so nobody can say for sure if they could even stop people in those regions purchasing.
Now, if they could purchase regardless and the PSN lock was in place then anyone affected by it could have refunded the purchase on Steam. Right now (especially if you’ve been playing since Feb) playtime refunds are well expired. This doesn’t mean the user can’t contact steam support and request a refund due to their region lock.
Review bombing the game doesn’t fix the issue. It simply destroys the reputation of a good studio because of an enforcement a publisher made on them.
Slamming them on reddit or the platform formerly known as Twitter does the same damage.
You are not sticking it to the man and making Sony feel bad. You’re being agressive and abusive to real people who are passionate about what they do and so far damn good at it.
Some people are going to lose access to the game come deadline. Those same people would not have been able to play the game if the account binding wasn’t disabled to address server issues (something mobs on here also complained about). If anything the positive side of this is that some people got to play a great game that they wouldn’t have been able to. Anyone whinging that they’re in a banned country is doing so to spark the fire. They saw the warning. They know they aren’t able to have a PSN account but they did it anyway. There’s also nothing stopping them using a VPN for the 60 seconds it takes to set up.
Situations a bit shit. But its not a surprise situation. People knew. People bought anyway and played anyway. Anyone genuinely caught off guard then yeah. Get your refund, sorry this happened to you.
For the mob trying to make a change. The only change that’ll happen is AH will get dropped and the game we all enjoy will very much be the next Anthem. Wanna make change. Band together and make a petition. Don’t review bomb like a fucking infant.
When other game require you to create another account: it does so before you can play and stop you from playing until you do.
So => you can just refund within the 10 min window and be done with it.
Here, the game ask you 1st if you want to enable cross play and then ask you to link
So it make you beleive this is juts for cross progression. (ex: if you played on ps5 before) Especially because you will even if you say no and skip the process :
1/ be able to play unrestricted:
2/ not be able to link it after. Futher reinforcing the thought that’s it’s just for cross progression.
Now that most user have gone above the 2h limit: this is free data for sony.
now any and all communication in the game after you link your account will be managed by PSN’s TOS, including moderation and enforcment of community guidelines.
Your progress will also be linked to that PSN account so if you get banned because someone reported you for saying “DIE SOCIALIST BOT” on chat: you will not only lose all progress, but be unable to play the game with that now linked steam account, and will have to buy the game again on another steam account.
And people defend this because if you scroll down the store page (far from the buying button, even futher if it’s from your wishlist) : it is said that PSN account is needed to play.
But just like with copyright: if it was required but not enforced; you shouldn’t have the right to force it way past refund period. If it was required and you could play anyway: it is by definition: NOT required.
The people unable to play because PSN isn’t available in their country is the main issue, and steam isn’t “obligated” to refund their purchases. If this was the plan all along, and AH and Sony sold it to those countries knowing that it wouldn’t be able to play in a few months… this is the major issue that needs to work out.
Plus the fact that AH is trying to plead ignorance and subservience to big daddy Sony doesn’t give much faith when Sony needs more revenue and suddenly heavy handed microtransactions come out…
I’m just getting fed up of how it’s patch after patch of nerfs to counter last week’s buffs, then buffs to counter last week’s nerfs. Just let us have some fun!
If Germany could get censored gameversions for many years, e. g. “Cyborgs” instead of human soldiers in Command and Conquer games or literally removing alls Nazisymbols from games, forcing me to buy the international version through e. g. Austria, then they also couldve avoided this disaster…
For the mob trying to make a change. The only change that’ll happen is AH will get dropped and the game we all enjoy will very much be the next Anthem. Wanna make change. Band together and make a petition. Don’t review bomb like a fucking infant.
Bad publicity scares SONY more than a boycott. They deserve the review bomb.
I think countrary of you, with all the bitching we have done, surelly they have notice the psn not being in all countries. So maybe with all this we made them work for an actual solution.
The people who bought this game with this requirement known, know damned well whether their country allows a PSN account or not. And they bought anyway.
You realize corporations are many groups of people right? It isn’t like Satan himself is sitting in a thrown dictating every single move that the company does on every single level
The only people claiming this are people who’ve never used PSN. You can freely make accounts for other regions and it doesn’t matter at all unless you are trying to buy something in the store with a different currency… which nobody who bought the game through Steam would have to do.
No it doesn’t. No man’s sky was a shit show and Sony didn’t bat an eyelid. Took years for hello games to gain community loyalty back because sony forced out an unfinished game.
I agree. Maybe this will finally force Sony to roll out PSN to a lot more countries, or allow region switching, or hell, update their TOS if they can’t do that. This has been an issue for years.
