IKEv2 still is faster than Lightway with ExpressVPN

Anybody else notice faster download speeds with IKEv2 over Lightway, with ExpressVPN?

sadly since v10 software no matter what i use i cant seem to get faster then 1.5mbps if im lucky on any protocol… im on a 500mbps line and tis been over 400mbps for the past 3 years until past couple months ago.

been trying to get things sorted with customer support good month now.

only way to get any speed for me is to turn off the vpn entirely which defeats the point in paying for it.

Tried the new Lightway to see if that helps but just disconnects and reconnects and disconnects and reconnects and disconnects so much i get 200+ notifications in windows 10 notifications in just a couple of minutes - how stable is the connection for you? do you not get this “reconnecting… disconnecting”

(note: ive reinstalled the entire software and adapaters and reinstalled all my network drivers and everything so im wondering if its expressvpn themselves)

I’ve never got to connect to IKEv2, it’s just stays for connecting forever. Am i missing something? Tried installing reinstalling everything, even clean flashed windows! But no luck.

yeah, I’m in a restricted country and still, ikev2 is much faster than lightway. although it improved really great in the recent time but still not as fast as ikev2.and I don’t have any issue with connections whatsoever. actually never had any issue

Using ARM based router, running ExpressVPN router firmware (without AES-NI), IKEv2 is the fastest for me.

Fast > Slow

  • No VPN (300mbps [my plan max])
  • IKEv2 (~190mbps)
  • Lightway UDP - (~130mbps)
  • Lightway TCP - (~130mbps)
  • OpenVPN UDP - (~75mbps)
  • OpenVPN TCP - (~75mbps)

Notes:

  • OpenVPN UDP/TCP are the most stable connection for me. All the other protocols have hiccups. Like, video calls hang for a second or two (constantly), or pages take a long to load (after a pause). Not sure why.

Yep same, Slow downloads, Internet speed cap / throttling is also there, But i got to connect Almost Instantly to any server in the world using Lightway protocol, never faced this reconnecting/ disconnecting issue.

Hmm how odd. That said I want to reinstall windows entirely from fresh as the ssd is from my old computer that was 11 years old motherboard! :joy: Removed all the old drivers but sometimes Windows can have left over bits. Besides gonna install to the new m.2 ssd so everything will be fresh when I get around to it.

Either that or my isp cgnat? (if I got that right) … They use a double Nat system/shared ip between 200 customers… Im hoping they havent started to block vpn protocols. Which would be a big issue. (but then it does work on my mobile  and don’t fancy paying £5 month extra for static ip
