Just got our hotspot and it’s working great in the Ocala Florida area. We are having an issue with Hulu saying it cannot be used with a VPN.
I have searched on here and on the internet but can’t find any real answers. Any idea how to deal with this Hulu issue? Are there other sites that won’t work with Genesis?
Many of the online streaming platforms block AWS (Amazon Web Services) IP ranges, as folks were setting up their own VPNs there to bypass content/geographical restrictions.
Same boat here. It also happens with Disney +, and sometimes Netflix. The reason is exactly what /u/jedis said.
I’ve had success in bypassing these errors by using a VPN on my devices - ironic isn’t it? I personally use PIA and they have specific “Streaming Optimized” VPN servers. Most of the time that fixes the issue although sometimes the streaming services will still freak out.
This doesn’t really make any sense to me but my fire TV stick wasn’t seeing the hotspot and my laptop couldn’t connect. I changed the battery from optimized to performance and everything worked.
If Dish doesn’t block VPNs, using another VPN which supports streaming (Express, Goose, etc.) is a cruel & expensive, but possible, workaround depending on the device.
Sorry this is such an old post — looking to get PG and use the phone exclusively for hotspot usage. Would this require me to download the PIA app on the phone and then everything connected to the phone (apple tv, game consoles, etc) would automatically be routed through the vpn?
Not really viable because he’d have to tether the hotspot to a PC and then run a VPN and share out that connection to other devices.
You can get a root shell by using Sierra keygen and if you can find openvpn binaries that will run directly on the device, that may be viable. Not sure anyone has done that yet.
