How to I setup a travel router?

Greetings!
I’m exploring remote work from Asia for a few weeks and aim to connect to my home router to access my work’s VPN.

Seeking advice from the WireGuard community on:

  1. Setting up a travel router (easy for beginners)
  2. Recommendations for home and travel routers (budget: 150-170 eur)
  3. Insights on potential risks. Appreciate your help!

If you have a lot of kids, a travel router could make sense. If you’re 1-2 people, why would you use one, I’m curious?!

GL-inet is good though.

Watch this:

I keep my travel router in a zip up box kids camera case. I use a type c hub so I can connect power and ethernet to the laptop and power the router.

I don’t use a travel router strictly to be anonymous, I primarily use it because coffee shop Wi-Fi is dangerous. It’s much faster if you can install Mullvad/Nord VPN on the router and pay monthly instead of setting up a wireguard tunnel all the way home. But your work will likely see your VPN provider. I’m extremely honest, if IT asked: Id say I use a VPN for coffee shops and visiting family to stay safe.

Test FAR in advance and use it everyday. Airbnb often report exact Internet speeds.

Thanks! And which router do you recommend me for home ? (The one I gonna get the Gl Inet connect to it)

I want to connect my work computer from Asia and have my home Europe address thanks to 2 routers doing the tunnel and my work VPN will then connect to this tunnel and think I am home :slightly_smiling_face:

It depends on your need, if your internet is not faster than 300Mbps I would say get another glinet for the sake of simplicity

Ok, see you cannot install or run Wireguard client on your work computer? That makes perfect sense!

No I can not install anything on my work computer :smiling_face_with_tear:
