Do I need F5 client installed to use the configuration profile for F5 VPN config? The docs are a little unclear on when using a VPN profile and choosing F5 as the VPN option that the client needs installing or not?
I believe this is if you want to use the built in vpn client for F5 vpns (instead of installing the f5 client). Pros and cons though, we did see a cumulative update cause a bunch of issues for the built in vpn client a couple months back? Hopefully that doesn’t happen again, but you never know. Pro is that you aren’t having to constantly update a client in the portal
No, you do not need to have the F5 client installed to use the configuration profile for F5 VPN config. The F5 client is a software application that provides a graphical user interface for connecting to F5 VPNs. However, it is not required to use the configuration profile. The configuration profile can be used to connect to F5 VPNs from any device that supports VPN connections.
To use the configuration profile, you will need to have the following information:
The F5 VPN server’s IP address or hostname
The F5 VPN server’s username and password
The F5 VPN server’s pre-shared key (PSK)
Once you have this information, you can create a VPN connection using the configuration profile. To do this, follow these steps:
Open the configuration profile in a text editor.
Locate the section of the profile that contains the F5 VPN server information.
Enter the F5 VPN server’s IP address or hostname, username, and password in the appropriate fields.
If the F5 VPN server uses a PSK, enter the PSK in the “PSK” field.
Save the configuration profile.
In the VPN client, select the “Import Profile” option.
Browse to the location of the configuration profile and select it.
The VPN client will now connect to the F5 VPN server.
If you are having trouble connecting to the F5 VPN server, you can check the following:
The F5 VPN server is up and running.
The F5 VPN server is configured to accept connections from your device.
You have entered the correct F5 VPN server information in the configuration profile.
You have entered the correct PSK, if applicable.
