I see a lot of people online talking about cheap VPNs that only cost a few $ with yearly deals. However, I’ve also seen a post talking about NordVPN being obscenely expensive for some users with year long subscriptions. Is it only worth it to get VPNs when there are great deals available?

You may get a low monthly average price when signing up for a long contract, 3-5 years.
But what if you after a few months realize that the VPN provider is no good for what you need? You can not cancel and get your money back, so you end up paying a very high price for a few months. Your good deal becomes a shit deal.
Never sign up for a long contract, most VPN providers are not worth it.
Go for providers with short contracts, preferable monthly contracts.
Yearly prices are normally less than half the cost of monthly subs, I always buy yearly for that reason making sure to stay clear of companies like NordVPN that jack up the prices after the first year.
Proton is reliable and during the black Friday a lot of people got a 2 years deal for 50$ or less.
Indeed. This is rather personal. A $5/year VPN that you never use is expensive. A $50/month VPN that enables you to run your business and pull in 10K/month is cheap.
But I guess he’s just looking for the lowest price. Which will indeed be lower on deal days, like black friday.
