Living Proof Full Shampoo and Conditioner adds volume without drying out frizzy hair.

1. Choose the Right Shampoo and Conditioner

Use products specifically designed for your hair type. Look for shampoos and conditioners that add volume. Using a specifically smoothing shampoo may be too heavy for your thin hair, even if your hair is frizzy.

Ouai’s Hair Mask adds moisture to hair without weighing thin hair down.

2. Use a Hydrating Hair Mask or Deep Conditioner

Incorporate a hydrating hair mask or deep conditioner into your routine once or twice a week. This will help nourish your hair and reduce frizz. Leave the product on for the recommended time to allow it to penetrate your hair strands.

3. Limit Heat Styling

Excessive heat styling can damage thin hair and exacerbate frizz. If you must use heat, use a heat protectant spray and opt for lower heat settings on your styling tools. Consider letting your hair air dry whenever possible.

The Aquis Hair towel is great for tamping down frizz for many hair types.

4. Use a Microfiber Towel or T-Shirt to Dry Hair

Regular towels can roughen up the hair cuticles and lead to frizz. Instead, gently blot your hair with a microfiber towel or an old t-shirt to absorb excess water.

5. Apply a Leave-In Conditioner

Use a lightweight, silicone-free leave-in conditioner to provide an extra layer of moisture and protection. This can help control frizz throughout the day.

6. Comb Hair with Wide-Tooth Comb

After showering, gently detangle your hair using a wide-tooth comb. This will help prevent breakage and minimize frizz.

7. Avoid Over-Washing

Washing your hair too frequently can strip it of natural oils, making it prone to frizz. Try to wash your hair every 2-3 days, or as needed.

8. Consider a Haircut or Trim

Regular haircuts or trims can help remove split ends and improve the overall appearance of your hair. Discuss with your hairstylist the best haircut for your hair type and desired style.

9. Use Anti-Frizz Products Sparingly

Apply a small amount of anti-frizz serum or oil to your hair to help smooth down the cuticles and reduce frizz. Be cautious not to use too much, as it can weigh down thin hair.

10. Eat a Balanced Diet and Stay Hydrated

Proper nutrition and hydration are essential for healthy hair. Consume a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins that support hair growth and strength.

11. Try Natural Remedies

Some natural ingredients, like coconut oil, argan oil, aloe vera gel, and honey, can help manage frizz and improve the health of your hair. Experiment with these ingredients to see what works best for your hair type.

12. Protect Your Hair at Night

Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and prevent additional frizz while you sleep. You can also loosely tie your hair in a silk scarf or use a loose braid to protect your hair from rubbing against the pillow.

Best Products for Fine Frizzy Hair

Living Proof Full Shampoo and Conditioner

I’m a Living Proof stan, but their shampoos and conditioners in particular get top marks from me. Their Full Shampoo and Conditioner set is meant for those with thin or fine hair and I love how it makes my hair feel thicker and smoother at the same time. This is the perfect shampoo and conditioner if you’re battling frizzy hair but also looking to addd some volume.

Kristin Ess Weightless Shine Leave-In Conditioner

I’ve written before about my search for a lightweight leave-in conditioner, and this one from Kirstin Ess really impressed, especially considering it can be found at Target. This one is the one I would recommend if you are working with thin hair that is also frizzy because it is lightweight enough while still pumping your hair full of moisture. Leave-in conditioner is definitely a must-have for frizzy hair and this is one of my favorites for anyone with thin or fine hair.

Ouai Hair Mask for Fine to Medium Hair

Hair masks can make a huge difference for frizzy hair because it gives hair moisture it needs to keep smooth and soft. Finding one that won;’t weigh down thin hair, however, can be a challenge. Ouai has an amazing mask that I use weekly to keep my frizz away. It leaves my hair shiny without getting rid of m hairs volume. It also smells amazing!

Olaplex No. 7 Hair Oil

I used to hate hair oil because I associated it with making my hair heavier and greasier. Sure, it made my hair shinier, but at what cost? I’ve since found some great lightweight hair oils, but one of my favorites for thin hair that is frizzy is the No. 7 Bonding Oil from Olaplex. It’s light but still nourishing and tamps down frizzy and makes hair super smooth.

Aquis Hair Towel

The power of a microfiber towel cannot be underestimated when it comes to battling frizzy hair, and this one from Aquis is one of my favorites. It absorbs the water without tugging at hair, leaving it smooth even as it dries your hair. It comes in lots of colors so you options. This hair towel is an indispensable part of my hair routine and a lifesaver for frizzy hair.

How to Get Rid of Thin, Frizzy Hair Conclusion

Thin, frizzy hair is not fun (I know firsthand) but with the right products that can deliver lightweight moisture without tamping down volume, your hair can be sleek and smooth while still maintaining some life. These products are all ones I use on a regular basis and have adored for months or even years. Finding the right products and haircare routine can make a huge difference in the frizziness of your thin hair and give your hair body and life.
