YSK that if you're using a free VPN on your phone or computer, the provider likely is making their money by tracking and selling your browsing information

You can read about a study of free VPN services here: https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/337885

The phrase “if you’re not paying for the product, you are the product” really applies here. VPNs, especially in some countries, are a vitally important way to maintain your privacy on the internet. Don’t make the mistake of handing your privacy over to a shady company that can abuse it! Some of the well-established and trusted VPN services do require a subscription fee, but the competition between them has kept the fees affordable and it is well worth the cost.

Ooh my god thank you so much

Proton mail has a free VPN that I think is legit.

It is supposedly funded by their paying members.

So how do I know the paid VPNs don’t just go sell my data as well?

what VPN’s are legit though? they’re all owned by someone…who’s to say what the owners of any of the do with our info

I think Windscribe is pretty legit,20 GB a month for free,i have 50 GB a month.

Plus, don’t use any VPN based in China or downloaded from Chinese App Store, especially if you’re a Chinese citizen living in China.

Why would you think there are still usable vpns in App Store while they totally can ask apple to take all of them down? Why would you think the government only took down part of those vpns?

Dissidents on twitter or Facebook are being arrested, including people I know.

As long as I can watch hentai on the school computer I’m fine with it

As always, if it’s free, you’re the product.

What about 1.1.1.1 (Warp/Cloudflare)?

An almost universal rule:

If a business provides a free service, YOU are what they are making their money off of.

Does this apply to the opera browser?

How do y’all feel about PIA? (Private internet access)

Awww man, are you telling me they now know about my BDSM fetish?

Or just use Tor /shrug

What about cloudshare??? Is it ok or is crap??

Opera’s built-in VPN is legit too, iirc.

or they could be making money by showing you some ads?

Betternet is a good vpn. The free version has general ads and they state in their privacy policy that they don’t track or sell browsing info.
