Your network connection speed is too slow right now for Remote Play

Been getting this error the last few days. I cannot connect unless I’m on the same network as my PS5. Worked flawlessly until a couple days ago.

If I turn on my ps5 and try connecting from mobile data, it tells me I’ve connected but then I get the error in the title.

I see a lot of others having issues as well. I’m assuming they’re all connected to the recent update

The thing that tickles me the most about this is the update for remote play happened September 10th. It’s almost been a full month and crickets have come from Sony. This is clearly an issue with them and their shitty update. Tried to use a vpn because I heard that works but have no idea what I’m doing as the vpn does not work.

I’m having this issue now also. I remember having it a few years ago regularly when remote play over 5g was introduced. I recall the issue being related to the mobile network, as some people (including myself) were able to get it to work over
VPN. What phone service provider do you have?
I set up a troubleshooting scenario at
Home where I connect to 5g and remain right near my console. What I noted is that my device will actually make a connection, and the console will acknowledge a remote connection but drop it shortly thereafter, before my phone complete the connection process. It happens during the “checking the network” phase. Seems to be some kind of network configuration issue. It still works over VPN for me, so it could be an issue with certain carriers or with the remote play app itself

How is the quality over a VPN though? I have T-Mobile same exact issue since update. Had an idiot at Sony tell me you could never use mobile data for remote play. I honestly don’t know if and when this situation will be rectified but it really sucks not being able to load up remote play whenever wherever.

It’s the Nat settings on the hand held device EE DO NAT 3 which will block interaction with the ps5 call EE and ask them to change it to NAT2

Just thought I’d add, I bought a new device and has this issue. I downloaded a VPN to my iPhone and straight after it connected seamlessly

On t-mobile, it sucks but you have to use a VPN, can’t recommend expressvpn enough though

Same issue on EE UK. I believe it has something to do with EE providing only an IPv6 address (and for IPv4 websites they provide DNS64/NAT64/464XLAT/CLAT)… the Remote Play app I suspect is trying to blindly connect to the PS5’s IPv4 address (and ignoring the CLAT 192.0.0.2 interface) as part of its speed test and obviously it can’t do that so it’s failing.

The VPN solution works instantly because my VPN provides an IPv4 address - so a route then exists back to the Playstation’s IPv4 address (even if it’s a private IP address the VPN is giving it on a totally different network from the PS5) so the connection succeeds.

Anyone know how to tell Playstation this and report this speed test bug?

For those wanting a fix to the NAT type 3 casueed by IPv6 CLAT, this worked for me (I’m not a big tech guy, so my knowledge is limited).

I first googled my router IP, then set up a custom APN - you should be able to find your carrier info online. Ensure you select IPv4 as your protocol.

By setting up a custom APN, you avoid the CLAT restrictions. Allowing me to enable UPnP (this in itself won’t solve NAT Type 3).

I then went into my network settings and added a VPN (check your router supports OpenVPN, as Huawei does not). I used NordVPN as they game me a year super cheap and just watched a YouTube tutorial on its proper configuration.

I’d get broadband, but it’s just not feasible in my location, so I have to do all this fuckery.

i am getting the same error but if i turn on my vpn on my iphone it works great. I don’t get it because when i do a speed test here at work i am getting aroung 900mbps which is very fast and at home my ps5 is connected to my modem router and i have blazing fast speed with at&T

so guys, i know this is a fairly old post, but i just ran into this problem today on a roadtrip. worked fine when i used a hotspot but not when i tried data. im on tmobile, heard to use a vpn. my normal use vpn didnt work. HOWEVER, i saw someone say to use expressvpn so i figured id give it a shot since they had a free trial. connecting using data after turning on the vpn worked perfectly. hope this helps!!

Hi everyone I’m having this issue atm. My console is in Australia and I’m travelling europe. Keep getting this message about the network connection speed and my brother was there physically with the console and saw it turn on but then it disconnects. I particularly don’t want to go through the vpn process as I’m worried it’ll affect my e sim and I still have 3 weeks of travel left. All the hotels I am in have wifi but tested this through wifi and 5g and same message occurs. Brought a backbone for the trip with me and haven’t had a chance to use it which sucks. Any help would be appreciated!

I’m also having this issue. Also on T-Mobile.

I had this issue when trying to use remote play with my PS4 on my iPhone a few days ago. I deleted and reinstalled the app and it’s been working fine since then. And yes, you should be able to use remote play over mobile data.

Working through vpn indicates it’s probably not the device (phone/tablet) but the network resolving a connection. More likely that that app itself needs an update or a service provider issue

Had the same problem however solves using VPN. ExpressVPN works like a charm!

So is it just t mobile because I literally spent 4 hours on the phone with them today. Got sent over to Apple screen share to try an fix it. Back to t mobile and nothing. They created a work ticket to try and resolve this. BS

It’s 100% T-Mobile and not Sony or Apple.

I began having the exact same problem a few weeks ago, remote play only worked over wifi but not T-Mobile data.

Now I’m doing the free 30 day Verizon trial (as a 2nd ESIM for data) and remote play has been flawless for me again. I might just consider switching to them or Visible if this isn’t fixed by the end of these 30 days.

Tried using it today with T-Mobile and I also can’t get it to work. I’m in the same room as my PS5 with 100Mbps+ on my Magenta connection and it says network connection is too slow. Shame cause several months ago it was working flawlessly at a bar a few miles away lol.

It’s working now using Mullvad VPN on my phone.

Yeah I just switched to T-Mobile and getting the message now. I had no problems when I was with AT&T. I hope they figure this out.
