Would a vpn hide what I’m downloading?

Hi this is my first post on this subreddit and yes I know the question sounds stupid and yes I know it does hide it but I wanted to know if I were to download a large file of 15+ gbs atleast would I be able to stop my vpn at any time after I start the download and still ensure that my isp won’t be able to see my download cuz my vpn is really lowering my download speed so I wanted to know if I could turn it off and have my actual Wi-Fi speed but still not have my downloads shown to my isp?

If you turn off your VPN you are no longer inside the VPN’s network.

Your ISP is not going to ever ‘know’ what your downloading, just that you are transferring files over their network from somewhere else using certain protocols. A VPN hides that by placing you within another network. Once you turn that off that information is visible to your ISP.

Once you turn off the VPN all network traffic will flow through your ISP IP and be seen. Either stay connected or download large files overnight when no one, or less people, are up and using the network
