Will I get banned if I use VPN to change location for better ping?

Disclaimer: I’m NOT using VPN for bot lobby n sh1ts.

I’m in East Coast and I want to play duo with my friend in Taiwan, however when I host the game his ping will go all the way up to 200ms, which is literally unplayable, and vice versa for me if he is hosting. So we used alts to try to VPN to LA and with that I would get less than 100ms ping while he would get around 150ms, which would be much tolerable for both of us. However we are just not sure if doing so would result in a ban or shadowban since we are sorta changing IP addresses.

I have been using a VPN for 6 months, it’s all good :+1:

Normally I would say stay away from VPNs when it comes to online games. But 200ms ping is bad enough that it could be better with a VPN.

Streamers use VPN since WZ release to get low lobbies so yeah its fine you can use one too

I had to use a VPN for a couple of months when WZ first dropped, due to an issue with the Activision servers (specially, server capacity they lease from CHOOPA LLC) effectively blocking connections from my ISP’s IP range due to some bunk QoS settings on the game server (Choopa’s) end…

Never had any issues with the VPN itself though. But I was getting some dropped packets or a doubled ping if I chose the “wrong” security mode. Never did quite figure it out. I suspect even when I had it correct, the VPN servers were just getting hammered in peak time so it was always a tad jittery…

Another user in the forums I frequent did actually get banned for “3rd party software detected” which was just his VPN. He logged a ticket, explained the situation, and got back playing again.

So while my VPN experience was fine, and most peoples’ has been… it’s not entirely risk-free it would seem.

You could always (depending on your router) manually configure the VPN settings there so you’re not running any extra software on your PC. Might be a pain if other users in your household are online though…

Can someone eli5 how a VPN works and what you recommend? I’m also looking at using a VPN after just discovering it and not really knowing what it is because my ping has become ridiculous. My connection and internet are VERY good and while my xbox states I’m pinging like 30 at all times whenever I’m in warzone it stays above 100 all the time.

I can say that with a normal vpn it doesnt really help your ping but if you use the sbmmoff vpn it will give you no lag and a low ping and sometimes you even get bot lobbies lol.

Funnily enough I was gunna make a post on this. If I play UK time between 2pm and 7pm I have such good games, win most of my gun fights, win alot of games etc.

If I play late at night (11pm to 3am UK time) no matter what I lose gun fights. I shoot first and yet somehow they just kill me but 3 hours ago I would have melted that guy. Is this a ping issue cause late at UK times I’m getting put into servers further abroad with high ping?

What’s ur ping late at night vs. earlier?

I would suspect, this is the “sweat hour” better players, more players are on, more choice to stick you in better lobbies, and have increased ping. It’s common to better during the day and worse at night.
