Why in the name of god proton vpn takes so f***ing much ram?? This has occurred many times prior to this time. Also app is super super laggy for the last couple weeks.
Mine uses less than 100MB even after days online, so something is clearly wrong.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling.
That’s not normal. It takes about 300Mb on my Windows 11. I’d try to fully reinstall the app and see if the problem persists then contact support.
I installed it for the first time the other day, it worked twice, then started doing as OP described; eating up all my ram and not working at all.
I got the same problem since the last update. App is unworkable. I’ll try a fresh install. OS is Windows 11. Proton VPN version 3.4.3.
Weirdly in the uninstall it states version 3.5.0.
Hows the rest of your computer working?
Not sure, I just manually create a wiregaurd connection on Arch linux, doesnt seem to consooom any resources.
I had to uninstall mine when it caused me to lose internet, only time that’s ever happened. also they sent me a message that their email service will be cancelled and all your mail lost if you fail to use it for a period of time, maybe they have a new owner cause their fucking everything up now.
I just found it using 52GB worth of ram
Same issue man, and here I was thinking I was going insane
Same issue here, this is my third reinstallation. Something is wrong here.
Running 32 gigs and I don’t think I’ve ever noticed and that’s not a lot of ram for today.
I come from PIA to Proton. And I wonder what makes my computer lag. Demm, Proton VPN!
well app malfunctioned A LOT so this is actually a pretty new re-install like a week or so. by malfunctioning I mean not working at all. laggy app, buttons not clickable etc. so I wonder whether there could be a bug or not.
You don’t even need to use the app in Linux. Wireguard is built directly into the Linux kernel. You can connect with only CLI commands if you want to. There’s also GUIs for NetworkManager in any recent distro that runs KDE or GNOME.
Deinstall install fixed my issue
Try BC Uninstaller or some similar software and remove registry keys as well BC uninstaller will prompt you for that, you can also try removing the app via safeboot mode. And last but not least, do system updates
It might not be completely uninstalling for some reason.
Try doing an uninstall, then delete anything left over in:
- C:\Program Files\Proton\VPN\
- C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\ProtonVPN\
Maybe try turning off something called “Hardware Accelaration” under settings, and see if that makes a difference?
Yes, but doing that sucks, and you can’t autoselect the least busy server.
