I’m really worried about security because of all of this and I would like to use a good, safe VPN.
I’m hearing a lot of good things about Single, but I’m not sure the best way to set it up or even where to start. What should I look for in a VPN?

What is important to you? Are you concerned about hackers or the government? Right now the IS does not have a law requiring VPNs to log data and traffic. This means that if they go to court to get an order for your information, the VPN will have to give them what information they have—but they might not have any information to give. If they don’t keep records then there are no records to give up. A privacy vpn will keep payment data separate so an account can’t be traced to a particular person.
Note, I said currently the US doesn’t require tracking data but laws can change. If you are concerned about hackers then it doesn’t matter but if you are concerned about the government, then it does. That is why some people want a non based in a country with strong privacy laws.

I switched from Nord to Proton on the suggestions of a few folks in this sub. So far, so good. Beware of Nord. They give your data away. Ideally, look for a VPN that doesn’t keep logs (Like Proton or Mullvad).

Tldr; services are better at spotting where you are from, hackers are now smarter, and shady VPNs can monitor and steal your data during encryption tunnel making them irrelevant.
