What VPN to use in China

I haven’t been in a few years and I was wondering if there’s a vpn you guys would recommend using while in China?

If you’re just bringing a phone you can buy a Hong Kong sim card which also works in mainland, gives unfettered access to everything.

To be honest, any VPN you use is going to be shut down periodically if you are in China long enough. The most popular VPNs for China are Strong VPN, Astrill, and Vyper. If they are shut down, they are able.to update the servers quickly so that you are not inconvenienced for too long. I personally recommend Astrill, as I’ve had issues with the other two.

On my phone (android) i use the turbo vpn app

I’m going to China next week. From browsing around, looks like ExpressVPN is reliable (some people say it’s owned by the Chinese government). Also heard good things about VPN.ac. Last year I had Digital Ocean credit so I used Streisand: GitHub - StreisandEffect/streisand: Streisand sets up a new server running your choice of WireGuard, OpenConnect, OpenSSH, OpenVPN, Shadowsocks, sslh, Stunnel, or a Tor bridge. It also generates custom instructions for all of these services. At the end of the run you are given an HTML file with instructions that can be shared with friends, family members, and fellow activists.. Shadowsocks, AnyConnect, and OpenVPN+Stunnel all worked. Apparently now the Chinese government is cracking down on this stuff so some people have had issues with Shadowsocks.

You should check out NrdVPN & PureVPN. I’ve tried both, and they’re really good. NrdVPN has the best reviews on the web, but PureVPN has an amazing promotion going on now - $29 for a 1-year subscription.

Ill only be there for about 2 and a half weeks

Don’t use Astrill. It’s not as good as before. Use ExpressVPN.

For only that long, you could probably make do with a free/trial VPN like turbo or green.

ExpressVPN never worked for me, but I was located in Yunnan. May depend on where you’re going.
