Thanks to anyone that replies!!!
OpenVPN https://openvpn.net/
Can’t go wrong with viscosity!
From your other posts here it appears you are confusing the client with the provider.
PIA is a provider, that is they have a VPN server running, and will – for a fee-- provide you a username / password to connect. They may provide you with a number of different VPN protocols (languages) that you can use.
You can connect to a provider with a client. Providers often offer you a client (as PIA does) which speaks the different protocols that they do, but those protocols often have many clients. Some of those clients are free.
For instance, the provider PIA offers VPN service over the following protocols:
- OpenVPN (secure)
- PPTP (insecure)
- IPSEC/L2TP (secure)
They offer you a client called PIA manager (or something), but you could use the official OpenVPN client, or the Windows PPTP client, or the ShrewSoft IPSec client, or the Cisco IPSec client-- and if configured correctly, any of those should be able to connect to PIA’s servers.
The main advantages of the official client for services like these are
- The company will offer tech support if it doesnt work. They sometimes offer less support for other clients.
- Their client is pre-configured with all of their settings
Hope you are not looking for Free service… PIA, PureVPN, ibVPN, IPVanish, IronSocket, Boxpn, ExpressVPN, TorGuard
Have had good results with both Hidemyass and Private Internet Access.
Airvpn. They don’t keep logs.
no point in asking here.
unless you suck pia’s dick,
their shills will down vote you.
i’m using ibvpn the past 3 years
p2p outlets only costing $18/yr
romania based support and billing.
mullvad would be my second choice
but only because they cost more.
Astrill or Privateinternetaccess. Personally I like Astrill. Far more servers, and faster speeds, and better interface/client.
Wow, and this is free?
Edit: Nevermind, I think I’d rather pay for https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/
Thanks a lot for the time you took to type this.
Really clears things and educates.
PIA’s client is called “Private Internet Access.app” which I think only adds to the confusion. Am using it right now but may give viscosity or Tunnelblick a try.
HOW would you compare it to PIA?
I’ve had no issues with them. So far so good.
Thank you, looking forward go PIA
I like PIA but their client has been problematic with the latest Android update and have yet to do anything about it.
That’s just the app/program that lets you connect using the OpenVPN VPN protocol. They are not a VPN provider. It’s kind of confusing, since they named their client after the protocol.
A lot of VPN providers provide their own OpenVPN clients, provided they support the protocol, or you can use the one Anthaneezy linked.
You should try out AirVPN first.
