Im looking for the fastest and best for 900 mbps internet. So I can downloads faster stuff.
- You need a VPN with the WireGuard protocol. It makes it easier to reach these speeds.
- For torrents, port forwarding is required.List of VPNs with port-forwarding and no logging evidence (2021)List of VPNs that allow port-forwarding (2021)
- Choose a VPN service that has a server geographically close to you.
After selecting VPN for these items, you will not have many options left.
I used Mullvad for a while and have been pleased with the performance. I am currently using a different service as the discount offer (Windscribe) was good for Black Friday.
One of the best ones I’ve used so far, and with WireGuard protocol as well, is vpn.ac .
The best test of a VPN is to use it in China, and this one was an absolute lifesaver that punched through a very heavily firewalled network in which N0rd couldnt even connect to a single server.
torguard works well for me, i have 1000down and get around 900 w/ a server ~2k kms away from me
The best VPN for anyone is Mullvad.
I use AirVPN but I’m looking for security not speed. Most of the servers they have GEO based range from 100 mb to 20gbps
I seen some people on the wevpn discord posting screenshots and getting over 900 mbps .

I use Private Internet Access. It’s got amazing speeds on every test that I have thrown at it. It has very good speeds. It has WireGuard as well, but it’s not on by default, so you’ll have to change the settings. But otherwise its straightforward.

Debatable. ExpressVPN and particularly Astrill are also competent in China but they aren’t good VPNs for general use and torrenting. I have a soft spot for VPN.AC as I remember when they were one of the first to come up with the proxy extension and experimenting with OpenVPN ECC/XOR, but they just fell behind the times. They also still keep connection logs which includes IP address and lack port-forwarding.
As much as I like Mullvad (and subscribe to it), Mullvad is a terrible choice for anybody looking to stream geo-blocked content. Apart from that, they’re amazing, but the only thing I could hope for is some sort of 2FA / password.
AirVPN is great for privacy and security but, they do lack speed. I believe they are only just now implementing the wireguard protocol in beta testing now.
I think this service is suspicious. If their services are free, then you are earning money for them.
Thanks for those insights. A lot of folks swore by express and Astrill, but to be very honest, express spends an insane amount of money targeting Chinese users, and I had a good friend use and recommend astrill, but they were not the most tech adept person around.
Without getting into too much details, I was in a place where the internet was even more locked down than normal, and VPN ac worked flawlessly. Another time, I had an issue and the support I got was excellent, as the person on the other end was very well informed that AI-based tracking was being used to identify and shut down VPN users.
It might be true that VPN ac might not be as good as they used to be, but with the money back guarantee, it won’t hurt to try them out.
Edit: Please do share what VPN you would recommend for streaming services and general usage (not concerned with torrenting atm)
As I only do P2P, that’s never been an issue for me.
Oh as far as I know, though its free, it serves its purpose for me. I can use it for the things I need it to.
I fly there regularly and for commercial VPNs Astrill has always been the most reliable for me. Like VPN.AC they also have the web proxy you can use when they crank up the firewall, especially on China Telecom ISP. ExpressVPN is 99% advertising, but they used to have the Hong Kong 3 server that wasn’t so bad. Tokyo 2 also worked well in Beijing.
That said I don’t recommend either outside China. Plus, the best nowadays there is really to self-host a v2ray/Xray server on a lesser known datacenter.

For general use I’d say Mullvad, ProtonVPN, IVPN, OVPN or AirVPN. For streaming it depends on your needs. I would contact those providers and ask whether they support whatever you require. But keep in mind nothing is really working that well with Netflix now and other platforms are following the same tactic of just blocking everything that doesn’t look like a residential IP address.
Don’t mention best VPN for “anyone” then, is all. I’d argue that there simply does not exist a “best VPN for anyone”.
Thanks. I’ll definitely look into these. I had mulled over the self-hosting solution during a particularly annoying October (when they shut down vpns) but then all this happened and I doubt i’ll be going back.
Thankfully my VPN needs aren’t very exotic. Mostly just using US servers for Hulu. Nothing beats the high seas though. Nord isn’t too bad for that, but for the life of me I could not get its garbage browser extensions working. VPN AC has a wonderful solution for that.
