Web browsing only works with vpn

Ive been having this issue on firefox and google where youtube will not load, sometimes the red loading bar goes to 80 percent then it says im offline when I still have a connection and if I get a video to load the quality is bumped down to 360 p and it takes forever to load.

Ive also had unresponsive searches, for example, ill google something and try to click on a link but all it will do is sit on the page and spin and not resolve. Some pages I frequent like amazon take forever to load and when it does load the page looks completely broken.

The interesting thing is as soon as I connect a vpn all the issues disappear.

Loading issues do not exist on any other device in my house Ive tried clearing dns, renew ip, clearing cache, incognito/private mode, removing all extensions/addons, removing and reinstalling the browser, updating network drivers, and now Ive completely reinstalled windows and the issue persists.

I would have to assume the last reason is my ISP (verizon) is throttling my connection but I don’t see it happening on any other device and I have a fiber connection with gig speeds without bottleneck so it does not add up.

Heres my pc specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x

RAM: 32gb trident z ddr4 3600

Mobo: Asus rog strix b450-f gaming II

GPU: Radeon RX 6600 XT

SSD: samsung 970 evo

Heres a speed test: https://www.speedtest.net/result/13657

Im going insane please save me

Edit: Turns out it was a common fios issue where you need to disable ipv6 in the router, works like a charm, special thanks to @ redittuser090720231 for the tip

Have you checked if your VPN has a kill switch or the VPN Always On option is turned on? When this is enabled, your device’s internet is cut off when the VPN is turned off.

Who is your ISP? This may also be an issue with the DNS server. Try changing DNS to Google or Cloudflare on your PC/router and see if the issue goes away.

Yes I use mullvad and I tried to go to YouTube and stuff right after I wiped my computer and reinstalled windows and it still had the same issues. Once I installed mullvad and turned it on everything became much more responsive. Online games and that sort don’t seem to be affected either way so I still have a connection

I have Verizon. I tried default dns servers, googles, cloud-flare, quad 9, and opendns without luck. Someone sent me a dm and said to try disabling ipv6 so I’m going to give that a shot and clear the mac table in my router Incase some weird stuff is happening with arp

Could be DNS, throttling, or Shaping
