We’ve got big news! 📣 PIA is proud to announce the release of our Split Tunneling Beta and our Apple TV Beta Release!

Hello Reddit Community!

We are thrilled to announce that Private Internet Access (PIA) has two major updates to our service. First, PIA continues to lead the industry with a successful fix for split tunneling on macOS 11 and beyond, reaffirming our commitment to global internet privacy and security. Second, PIA is excited to announce the release of the beta application for Apple TV (with dedicated IP compatibility)!

Split Tunneling Solution overview:

We are excited to share that as of today, February 22nd 2024, the Beta version of our macOS split tunneling feature is now available! This will be followed by the full release for all users with the macOS app on March 7th.

Background information:

Split tunneling is a feature that allows users to customize their connection within the virtual private network (VPN), and decide which apps and IPs should redirect traffic through an encrypted tunnel and which should access the internet directly through the ISP.

Since Apple’s 2021 update to their network frameworks and libraries, split tunneling was no longer possible to deliver on macOS, for all VPN providers. The PIA team has been working hard to adapt to these challenges and we’re excited to announce a successful split tunneling fix.

Apple TV Beta overview:

As of today, February 22nd 2024, you can now download our Beta VPN application for Apple TV 17 and above! After this, the iOS (Apple) app will be released for all users on March 7th.

Would like to see split tunneling by domain name so we can exclude specific websites, AND to be able to give a name/description to a split tunnel rule when adding by ip address.

I’ve installed the Apple TV app and it seems to be working from by quick testing. The UI is a little sparse (no ping information for example), and there’s a weird looking pop up menu when trying to save a location as a favourite, but other than that it seems OK :+1:

I’ve not been able to find a location which allows streaming of the F1 from the UK yet though

This is great!

I don’t know how to get this email invitation, can someone help me out?

  • With our beta program, you can be at the forefront of our latest releases. Here’s how you can join.

Get TestFlight.

Open the email invitation on your desktop on the phone, and follow the instructions.

Download the PIA Apple TV app.

On Appletv and iOS it runs quite smooth and it’s faster than the other vpn I have. So far so good - keep going

Having tried out the AppleTV app for a few days now, where is the best place to leave some feedback?

thank you for getting split tunneling operational again! Hopefully it plays nicely with adguard and private internet relay

You guys still on track to release full apple TV app on the 7th March (tomorrow)

Any news on the release on aptv? It’s March 7th today

It’s 8th March and still no sign of the app on the AppeTV App Store in the UK. Did something go wrong?

I checked this morning, and I do not see the TV app available.
Since it was scheduled to be released yesterday - could we get an update on when to expect the GA release?

Been stuck on v3.3.1 for a long time, waiting for split tunneling on macOS to be fixed. Tried upgrading today. I noticed that PIA only offered to upgrade to v3.5.3, and couldn’t find any way to check for updates to get it to offer an upgrade to v3.5.5. So instead of letting it update itself I downloaded the v3.5.5 installer from the website. After several attempts to install it, the PIA app would not load and showed a spinning icon as it attempted to run, with the only option being “Quit”. I restarted the computer and tried several other things, but it will not work. I’m on a Mac Mini M1, 2020 running the latest Sonoma 14.4.

I installed v3.3.1 again and at least things seem to be working as they used to. The one thing I considered but didn’t want to try was to uninstall PIA completely and allow AppTrap to delete all the settings. However for now I don’t have the patience to reconfigure all my settings. I suppose I’ll just keep waiting until another new version (v3.5.6?) comes out and try again. Or maybe if the app installed now offers me to update itself to v3.5.5 I’ll try that…

another reason to get iCloud private relay working is with that I can surf the net without annoyances, with Pia VPN protecting the browser I’m in captcha hell, every website I’m asked to captcha with pia vpn /safari

How can we split tunnel or apo bypass on iOS? It’s causing issues with my Tesla app. I can’t use my iPhone as the key if i have my VPN on.

Thats awesome news!!!

Currently I am getting page not found, regarding the blog posts?

Why would I use the VPN on my Tv?

So like with the windows version some servers can’t access Netflix, on Apple TV it will allow me to stream Netflix USA/ or Netflix China without issue?

And now the split tunneling will work on macOS so I can point the split tunneling to bypass VPN on my local Plex media server?

macos sonoma mac mini pro after installing this beta update , things start downloading then they stop after a few seconds , all of the servers i pick do this

I have enabled split tunneling on the desktop client in macOS. I have noticed that the PIA DNS server still shows as the active DNS server when browsing from an app that is set to bypass the VPN, in this case Safari. Ex: When browsing to ipleak.net from Safari (when set to bypass the VPN), it will show my ISP IP address and the PIA DNS server as my DNS.

Splitting by domain is a very hard problem unfortunately, the APIs we’re using are strictly app or ip based. If we find time, we will look into it, but similar to firewall rules generally they don’t really operate at the domain level.

Browsers are different however, and our browser extension offers exactly this feature.
