VyprVPN flagged by Microsoft Defender?

VyprVPN flagged by Microsoft Defender?

Just got the same message. Very worrying.

ditto - Defender quarantined the exe for me, its a false positive.

Just whitelist your app

Thanks for the post and comments, guys. This is definitely a false positive, and we’ve submitted data to Microsoft to get this false positive result removed from Windows Security.

Until that’s done, you can safely tell Windows Security to allow VyprVPN on the computer.

I think this is the reason “This program displays deceptive product messages.” in the details.
So nothing real bad it seems. Just spam or ads I guess. Maybe they can have ads that can infect or have that ability? Or just popups and things they see as bad (And are).

Norton antivirus did the same kind of thing to me FYI, identifying VyprVPN as PUA.Superfluss. It quarantined VyprVPN and then I had to suffer through 2 or 3 reboots with blue screens of death. I haven’t gone to the trouble to reinstall yet, not wanting a repeat of all that or worse. Will this be addressed by VyprVPN soon?

If this is truly a ‘false positive’, why has this not been handled in 10 months?

Norton360 still identifies this as ‘dangerous’.

Pardon, but how can we take your ‘word’ that this is not truly harmful? Are psople installing this regardless that you don’t need to really address this?

Thanks for the question. We are currently working to resolve this in an upcoming update - sorry for the long wait!

Currently, we can only offer you our honest assurance that there is nothing malicious in the VyprVPN app. We still have the VyprVPN application installed on our work devices and many of us have it installed on our personal devices as well, because we fully trust our service and we know we haven’t placed anything malicious in it. At the same time, we understand that our users don’t have that same internal assurance, and have to take our word for it.

The best thing an individual can do for their own online security is to make careful decisions regarding which service providers they trust. If you look into our history, you’ll see that we’ve been around for a long time, we’ve always taken our customers’ privacy and security very seriously, and we’ve even been a champion for increasing users’ privacy online in general - Our Commitment | VyprVPN

We can’t tell you to trust us - no one can do that - but we sincerely hope that you will.

Here’s the deal… Your company has been around a long time, I get that. However, you’re based in the safe harbor of Switzerland. Norton Lifelock, though I know it has it’s own issues, is based in the U.S. with a market capitalization of 13 Billion USD.

You can’t say one thing and not be in good standing with a company like NLOK… Step up!
