Hey a bit of a tangent from add-ons but an issue I’m having nonetheless. All input welcome.
I have Nord and Kodi installed on a TCL Google TV. For some reason, Nord always loses connection to VPN after 20-30 minutes. I’ve done my best to research and troubleshoot but not finding info…maybe no one else is doing it?
I expect I’ll need to set up an external box for VPN and route through that if I can’t resolve but it’s such a PITA.
BEEN BROWSING YOUR OLD COMMENTS LOOKING FOR SAME SOLUTION;
SO FAR (30 MINUTES AND ALL GOOD) THIS SEEMS TO BE WORKING (CUT AND PASTED FROM ANOTHER SITE IN GOOGLE):
This is a good solution , at least vpn stays active much longer than before , but for my TCL TV the path was different :
1st : Setting >> Apps >> Special app access >> Energy Optimization ( Turn it off for vpn app )
2nd : Open Safety Guard app from home >> Permission shield >> Auto launch permission ( turn auto manager to closed and toggle your vpn app on opened manually )
3rd : do same as 2nd step on Relevance start part of safety guard app
Hi is there a fix for this as this renders the whole possibility of using a vpn on these ‘tcl android tv’s’ useless. is there something we can do as i never had this issue with any othwr android tv whether it be philips, hisense or jvc etc.
Well damn wish I had seen this sooner. Super frustrating.
Not gonna replace the TV… anyone got a good suggestion for an inexpensive external VPN appliance? My router is from my Telco, I don’t think it supports VPN on board.
Man muss die Entwicklereinstellungen aktivieren und in denen kann man relativ weit oben den Stand By deaktivieren und weiter unten die Hintergrundprozesse einschalten!
A while back there was an update to the TV as I have probably the same one as you do and it made it so a VPN would turn off as soon as you left the screen and went to something else. Go online and buy a premium service like Real-Debrid or All Debrid. They are relatively cheap compared to the VPN and your ISP will not know what you were doing and you get to use better add-ons and get better faster links I have Cody install directly onto my TCL Google TV without a bill and I use umbrella and Fen
Damn I have similar tcl google tv and its painful to use kodi on, get a google chromecast 4k on blackfriday, it will change your viewing experience completely.
There was an update that made these TV’s kill the VPN as soon as you left the VPN screen. Prior to that update, you could use a VPN on the TV without a problem. I have the 55S or something like that I forget exactly but the point is that vpns aren’t needed if you have a similar service to Real-Debrid
I have tcl tv once i load app it disconnected I beleive there is a app built in the the new models of tcl that causes it.I need it to watch a uk catch up but once I connect to it surfshark disconnects any advice welcome as I have tried everything that I know of
I have the older tcl & surfshark works 100%
I’ve been having issues with my new TCL TV (58S479G) since day one. Even after trying the measures mentioned above, it only seems to help a little bit and takes longer for TCL to kill the VPN app, but it doesn’t solve the problem. TCL kills the background apps after a while regardless, and as far as I know, there’s no way to prevent it. Whatever the issue is, I do know that my next TV won’t be a TCL. I previously had a Hisense TV and didn’t have this issue.
The only reason to use a VPN for Kodi is to get services that are Geo locked.
The Debrid service basically hides your IP address from your ISP. Because you’re paying to use their servers not to mention the VPN throttles your connection.
I used to have a VPN because I was torrenting. But after speaking with many people in this subreddit I dropped the $70 a year and only pay $17 every 6 months
In the settings go find the app called safety guard. Have I noticed if you force disable that app, the VPN stay running even after opening other apps on the TV. But it seems to come back after you. Either power the TV on or have it come out of sleep so then you have to do it again. But this is the only thing I found that works.cheers
