Hi, I am looking for a cheap modem that is sold in Europe, supports a certain “private internet connection” VPN and 1 gig speeds. I have tried googling but all my results are basically sites that “review” (advertise) VPNs or modems that are only sold outside my country.
Modems have nothing to do with VPNs. There is also no VPN that will get 1gig. What exactly are you trying to do?
Search for openwrt router.
You can add your own VPN to it.
I’m fairly certain basically any router will have VPN functionality these days
Try the TP-Link Archer VR900 or Netgear Nighthawk. Both support VPN passthrough and 1Gbps speeds. Just make sure they’re compatible with your VPN before buying.
You say that while I am able to get 499Mbits (sometimes more than 500Mbits) with my 500Mbit connection and I get 443Mbits (though it does jump around a bit) with my VPN turned ON. And as for what I am doing? Downloading Linux isos.
Not my Zyxel XMG3927-B50A to the best of my knowledge
lol I was only able to find a single retailer in my country selling the TP-Link Archer VR900 (priced at 108€) however they have none in stock their supplier also has none in stock and there is no info on when either one of them will get more. As for the Netgear Nighthawk I was able to find some Netgear Nighthawk routers being sold but they are all very expensive. If I do decide to get one of them what is a good model?
This doesn’t really clear much up. Modem stands for modulator/demodulator. It translates the connection your ISP provides you to Ethernet. Modems have nothing to do with VPN’s, it has no idea what kind of data it’s passing. Are you trying to get a router that will send all packets it transmits through the VPN?
I also struggle to believe your VPN will actually allow you to send gig traffic through it. That would require a very powerful VPN server with a huge dedicated pipe and nobody else using it. It would be very expensive to provide those kinds of resources. Perhaps you might be able to achieve such speeds for a short speed test, but even that would be quite impressive.
That model went EOL almost 2 years ago, looks like it was released back in 2017? When the commenter above said “nowadays” I’m pretty sure they were meaning a device that’s still being supported and sold on shelves.
Time for an upgrade, my friend.
lmao I was sold that modem by my internet provider as the “newest top modem” that supports 1 gig speeds in 2020 for I think 129,90€ though I got it for free when they screwed up the bill
They all say that, welcome to the world of advertising.
well any recommendation on a “cheap” widely sold VPN that supports my requirements?
I am unfamiliar with what is sold or required in Europe, sorry
Again, basically anything, just go on Amazon and look for wifi router and it will support VPN.
