My primary concern is reliability IE: a solid dependable connection that automatically reconnects after drop out and on a device restart, so I can just set things up and forget about it.
I’m also expecting a reputable source that offers high industry standards for privacy and security.
There are so many VPN App providers on Playstore, with mixed reviews that vary widely, I’m unable to make a proper, informed decision.
Please can I ask for some advice on what you Folks see as good choices for a non censorship locked country user who doesn’t require multiple licences or other platform use, just a VPN for my Android Phone.
Thank you.
UPDATE 25th March.
Thank you to everyone who posted, your feedback was very helpful.
In the end, I decided it was down to, Windscribe or Proton.
My first free trial was, Windscribe which initially seemed quite good but after 4/5 days of use suddenly seemed to change for the worse, the connection was solid enough ( no drop outs ) but things just didn’t seem the same, I don’t know enough about these things to know why.
I’m now trialing Proton and will add my findings to this report, once I have run with it for an equal amount of days.
I used keepsolid by monodefense. When I bought the lifetime subscription, the reviews were, and to my knowledge, still are great. I’m open to others’ views on it, though.
I also use Google vpn, which is part of my cloud service
I use safe shell and I like it a lot. Also with one sub I use on iOS, Android and Windows. It connects pretty fast , has an app mode and has been reliable most of the time
I use Proton, and I like it a lot! Mullvad is also great if you’re more privacy orientated, and it’s also quite cheap, so it’s a great second option.
I previously used Surfshark, but after a while, it became slow, and it wouldn’t even connect sometimes (their customer service wasn’t all that great either).
These five VPN providers have options that, according to their online documentation or support staff, meet the aforementioned recommended settings and features. Those options, however, might not be available for every device or automatically activated right away. You may need to do some additional research to see if your specific device can support the aforementioned tech considerations and if there are any additional steps you’ll need to take to switch features on or make changes to them:
