VPN on FireStick & Router for Use with TiviMate?

Wondering if there is any value or reason to setup a VPN on my FireStick as well as my router, Or is it overkill to do this? Currently using Nord and have the ability to install Nord on the FireStick as well as a GL.iNet Router. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I have seen the ability to install vpn on the router, but to be honest, is it worth the trouble? You could end up upsetting your WiFi to all devices if you make an error. I’d stick with putting it on the firestick and utilise all the controls from your device on screen as you can see exactly what’s going on then.

It’s easier to manage it per device than on the router. Some providers say you need it while other don’t. Some even say if you’re buffering turn it on or off. So I would just install it use it if you need to.

I use my router for VPN on some devices. Like Apple TV doesn’t have a VPN app at all.

But, on a fire stick, in the downloader app, I set ipchicken.com as a favorite and check my wan IP occasionally to verify all is good.

I use FastestVPN on my Firestick, and have it set to auto-connect. No problems whatsoever.

Use pfsense on something with wireguard and mullvad it works well and takes load off the devices. You can either do rule based (IP address of providers) or entire device.

Its really unnecessary if you install a VPN on your device( fire stick). Its definitely necessary to have VPN protection whenever you’re streaming as to prevent your internet provider from having the ability to log what content your streaming.

having on both just gonna hurt the speed and could effect streaming, stick to one

I’m using the IPVanish app & subscription on my FireStick with TiviMate. Works flawlessly. Once every few days I search for the fastest VPN connection which is a built in feature and leave it at that ……

You need to pay attention , when using Nord vpn. After their last update, they changed the standard protocol settings and is creating massive buffering. Simple cure is opening settings in Nord vpn app and change protocol settings to TLS

The goal of setting up a vpn on a router is to cover all devices on a network from a single point.
Make a choice but don’t do both … It’s either on the router OR the firestick.
Much simpler and convenient to do it from the Firestick.

As mentioned before. Nord vpn might give you problems with your provider.

What’s the issue with nordvpn?

I have only TCP (Open VPN), NordLynx, and UDP (Open VPN).

There’s no TLS protocol setting.

App version 6.5.1+Amazon

Stream buffering and hanging a lot for me with their NordLynx protocol. OpenVPN seems to work fine

I had issues with Nord which is why I switched to IPVanish. No problems anymore

Sorry for mistake… You can choose either TCP or UDP.

Are you using it on your firestick?
