For context I have a pixel 6 and have been using proton for about a year, and suddenly when I get back to school my vpn can’t connect. Any help? I’ve tried numerous vpns to no avail.
they’re probably blocking it with DPI. try using the stealth protocol.
It’s called VPN passthrough. Admins can block certain protocols from reaching the internet. They disabled VPN protocols, most likely, because people in your school were abusing them. Admins can use them for school-related purposes but you and guests can’t. If you want to use VPN you’re going to have to use your dataplan.
WireGuard tcp works for me
And how do I go about doing that
What? No.
There are many many ways to get around network admins blocking VPN protocols. That’s the whole point of the stealth protocol in proton. It’s also the whole point of shadowsocks, amnezia-wg, openvpn-cloak, v2ray, Xray, etc. it is very very difficult for administrators to do a decent job blocking VPN protocols. Look at China’s great firewall for example. They have been fighting the fight against VPNs for a hot minute, and largely failing, as VPN technology has only improved due to their countermeasures.
Also I’ve never heard this be called VPN passthrough for modern Wireguard VPNs ( like proton ). VPNs are blocked on a network level via DPI. VPN passthrough from my understanding was only needed for protocols like IPSec which you don’t see used often by consumers.
Under settings, and then Protocol. Smart should try all the protocols and eventually get through with something. But try forcing the Stealth option.
Ok, I’ll let you know if it works
Thanks, everything works
