Just a heads up, this may not work for everyone. It just so happened to work for me so I thought I’d share in as clear detail as possible how to do this.
For Hamachi:
- Download Hamachi from https://www.vpn.net/ .
- Install Hamachi, dont change any of the directories unless you are out of storage, just dont touch anything except “next” or “install”.
- Set-Up an account, don’t worry too much about it. Just put in your email and a password. That way you have a way to recover servers
- Whenever you open Hamachi, you want to press the power button and make sure it is on. You will know when it is on when it the power button is yellow.
(If the host) For first time setup, once it is running and up, click “Network” and then “Create new network” (assuming its in English). Make the network ID something like “Skyrim Together”, it can be whatever but that way you’ll recognize it. make the password whatever you want. After this you never have to do it again (unless you are making a new server for some reason).
(If Joining) Once the host has made a network, click on the "Network " tab, click on “join existing” and enter the information accordingly. If there are any errors that come up, just google them. Otherwise that should do!
Any time you have Hamachi open, make sure that the power button is on and that the server you’re on has a green dot next to it. If it doesn’t, you can double click the server and it will connect you. In order to close Hamachi all the way you have to exit from the “show hidden icons” menu on the bottom of your screen next to you volume slider and internet connection.
For a server: Setting up a server (assuming it is SE and through steam with Hamachi). For starters, have Hamachi, Steam, and Harbor windows open.
- Launch Skyrim SE through Harbor, and load a saveNOTE: You have to have gone through the first mission and be in the open-world for this to work best.
- (Only if you are the host) Once in the game, and only while you are loaded in the save, Alt+Tab out of the game and go to the steam library tab. Right click on Skyrim Special Edition, and click “properties”. Then click “Local Files”, and “Browse Local Files.” You now can close all of the prior steam windows. In the new File Explorer window you have opened, click the “server” file. Inside of the file there should be an Application called “Server_r”. Right click it, and click “Run as Administrator.” If all goes well, two lines of text should appear. Keep that window open, but don’t touch it. You may now close the “server” file-explorer window.
- (Everyone must do this, even the host) Alt+Tab out of the game, and click on the Hamachi window. Make sure everyone playing is online, and Right click the Host’s PC, and click “Copy IPv4 Address” (or something like that). It is the 6th option from the top down if they are online. Now Alt+Tab back into Skyrim. Press the Right “ctrl” button, click “connect” and in the top box press “Ctrl+V”. That’s all you do, confirm, and if all goes well it will connect. If YOU are the host, you put your own IP. Which is the first set of numbers (everything before the “/”) on the top text bar next to the power button.
