So I wanted to try out a new VPN and saw some posts about TotalVPN. At first they looked great and the 50% discount was attractive but after trying to activate my account for three days I had to give up on them.
I should have seen the red flags from the start, as soon as you sign up they try and rush you through selecting a plan and attaching a payment method, without even telling you the total amount you’ll be charged for.
At first I attached my PayPal and after 24 hours, I was still on the free tier. I removed my PayPal and attached a Credit Card, but again, nothing changed. Their support was utterly useless and their dashboard is completely broken. You have almost no options to control your account without contacting them. And guess what, you can’t contact them on a free tier, you get an automated response saying that they don’t respond to free users. This is after I get three or four emails from one of their sales people letting me know that I can contact them if I have any problems.
As for their app, they have no whitelisting features that I could find, so either you VPN your entire machine or you don’t. But the app looked nice, all things considered.
I went for my first vpn and instead of using my main debit card I chose a smaller limit Capitol One card that I don’t use and I went through about 3 different vpn services until finally PIA was able to be cleared with the security of cap one. Cap One security kept shutting down every attempt at the transaction. Totalvpn may have been one, another even went to the trouble of saying they blocked my IP from any future purchases, even though it’s a legit card and had the money on it. PIA works perfect for me with no issues or throttling and thank you for this review. Good to know what other VPNs are doing.
I have no affiliation with Totalvpn, but I kinda fail to see what you are really complaining about here.
Their prices are available from their frontpage both under Plans and Pricing, just like most companies offering a service.
From that other part it seems like you are complaining that they are not charging you for using the free version? … I don’t get it?
You have to manually select premium to get premium. Otherwise it would just be stealing your money without your consent.
What problems did you have with their dashboard? Seems fine to me.
I tried to contact support just to test it and got a nice and friendly response within 15 minutes.
I have tested quite a few vpn providers and having a whitelist feature per program is extremely rare. In fact I can’t think of any right now that has it built into their client.
I’m complaining that I can’t actually select a plan from their dashboard. I want to upgrade to a premium account but I can’t do that after I have already created an account.
I’ve contacted support three times and each time they were useless and provided not useful information as to how I could upgrade to a premium account.
Astrill has a whitelist feature. It was my first VPN, I guess I just assumed it was a standard.
