Torrentio and most addons no longer seem to work in China without VPN

Seems that since last/this week, most addons no longer seem to work properly when using Stremio within China without having a VPN turned on.

Does anyone have any potential insights into this? I am also looking at maybe a self hosted torrent scraper if anyone has any resources to share please do so. Thanks!

Well its probably now blocked by the government. I wouldn’t be very surprised.

If you are using clash/shadowrocket like vast majority of people there, you can add this to your rules

  • DOMAIN-KEYWORD,debrid,DIRECT

Then turn off auto update from provider. For shadowrocket, can use a module that works on top of base ruleset.

If you happen to use clash nyanpasu, can add a chaining script

prepend__rules:

  • DOMAIN-KEYWORD,debrid,DIRECT

This will allow you to bypass the vpn for debrid services, but use the vpn for stremio and addons.

You’re in China…that explains it!

Use the vpn

It seems hit and miss with me. Sometimes I can use it without the VPN. mostly I seem to have to use my vpn when using stremio but can then turn it off once the links are loaded. Sometimes it’s faster with the VPN sometimes without.

I think I might have found a solution. Since Torrentio no longer works for me, neither with no VPN nor with my Clash setup, I found a service called Stremthru, which runs Torrentio through a US server first, bypassing the block. You can find a guide on how to set it up here. For me the performance is best if you choose a proxy located in the US.

I am having the exact same experience, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing, I hope it might help other people who search and find this thread. I personally got a vpn router and just connected my tvs to it and has been working flawless.

Will try your suggestion too! Thanks again

I wasnt able to get this working. It gets a bit further in that it shows the torrents in the list. However, trying to play them just gets stuck.
