Torguard VS wireguard

Hi there!

Brand spanking new to Torguard. I enrolled for 3 years. I downloaded and installed the client. Everything seems to work fine. It also installed another software called wireguard that I don’t know anything about. So I’d like an explanation please.

  1. Wireguard, what is it?
  2. Wireguard vs torguard, what’s the difference?
  3. Wireguard, should I be using it instead?
  4. If I use wireguard, do I need torguard running still? If not, do I still need torguard client at all?
  1. Wireguard is a vpn protocol just like openvpn
  2. wireguard is a vpn protocol, torguard is a company
  3. When you select the wireguard in the torguard client it will use the wireguard app to connect
  4. You can download config files from the torguard website and use directly with the wireguard app, but it’s easier to just use the torguard app

Ok so its just a protocol, but should i be using it? Is it’s only benefit faster down/upload speeds?

Torguard client uses Wireguard and OpenVPN protocol, you can select either one when using the client. Wireguard is a protocol and has it’s own client as well, so either you use Torguard client or just download the configuration files from the site and use it in Wireguard app

My question is is the Wireguard app or the Torguard app (running Wireguard protocol) better? On both MacOS and iOS?

I do not own a iOS device and far off from getting one in the recent future, but the Torguard client on Android definitely has more features than you would have on the plain/vanilla OpenVPN or Wireguard client

Some examples:

  1. You have option for DNS filtering to select AD free DNS
  2. You can set/mark favorite servers/IP
  3. For OpenVPN you have the option to select the encryption/cipher protocol, which doing manually would be a tedious task

Again please note this options I’m referring are from the Android perspective, but I think keeping the consistent nature of the app, this would/should be on iOS app as well

Thanks. This is definitely true in terms of all the features. I think I’ll stick with the Torguard app.
