I talked to Torguard online tech support and they offered no real solution to the problem (per usual). So I hope someone here can help me out.
I’m on windows PC running Windows 10.
Recently I’ve noticed that when I connect to the Torguard VPN server, on the Torguard Lite app where it should say “Verified” under “Public IP”, SOMETIMES my real IP is shown instead. Visiting any IP checking website my IP was indeed not hidden.
I can somewhat fix this problem by manually reconnect until it actually says “Verified”, and it usually takes several tries.
The issue that really bothers me is when Torguard Lite reconnects in the background when the initial connection drops, I have no way of knowing when it does that as soon as it happens, and it sometimes reconnects and exposes my real IP. This exact scenario happened recently and my real IP was revealed to a third party.
When I contacted Torguard support, they gave the usual scripted responses instead of understanding my problem first. They suggested that I use the Killswitch, and I’ve always used the Killswitch, but it only works when TG Lite fails to reconnect, for example, when you abruptly close the TG Lite app. My problem is TG Lite DOES reconnect and establishes UNSECURED connection. So either TG tech support never fully understood my problem or they are not even familiar with the features of their own program. Torguard does not offer individualized support to your problems. I will be considering switching VPN provider when my current subscription ends.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem or something similar, or ACTUALLY know how to fix it?

I next edit the DNS servers through the file resolv.conf to stop DNS leaks (again you’d have to find the windows equivalent)
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4
Next I make sure the resolv.conf is read-only so it doesn’t change back to the original DNS servers from my ISP
Bind your torrent client to the VPN adapter. This way if the connection goes down for whatever reason you’re still OK.
Even if you get the client to work 100% that doesn’t mean it will never ever crash silently and flip you back to your normal IP. I had that happen a couple of times with Mullvad and that was an anxious month as I waited to see if I’d get a nastygram from some lawyer.
Now my torrent client is bound to the vpn TAP and it always goes to zero immediately if the VPN fails for any reason.
Ive had this same problem with Torguard VPN Lite. and ive only been using it for one day.
Also, when i torrent things for example, the “recieved data” section of Torguard will say 500megabytes , but Deluge(torrent program) says like 900megabytes.
Edit: i’m using Windows 8.1 btw
very weird. i put in a support ticket and posted on the forums, but have not gotten a reply
Hello, I apologize for the issues you encountered with our OpenVPN app. Please make sure you are using the very latest version and also try uninstalling / re-installing from the downloads area. For further troubleshooting and individualized support, please contact our advance support desk here: https://torguard.net/submitticket.php
Update: After switching to Vuze, updating the TAP program for torguard, and uninstalling malware bytes, ive stayed connected, no problems at all. connection time is at 21 hours and ive sent/recieved over 60 gb with no slowdown or disconnection
I’m very much enjoying TorGuard now that ive got it set up right
You are welcome, the problem is TAP drivers, older drivers for newer Operating Systems will cause these problems, TG said they now install the correct TAP for each OS.
