Tom Spark (respected VPN Reviewer) – Picks BitWarden as Best Password Manager?
Man, that was rough.
If he makes his VPN videos like this password manager video I don’t know if I could trust him. He didn’t do much research on each and claims they’re all the same. It’s like he spent 10 minutes each and made a video of which one is the best.
He doesn’t even know the basic operation of Bitwarden like the keyboard shortcut or using the extension icon to select passwords like the intro video points out when you get the extension. And him not knowing that forgetting your master password and not being able to reset it is a standard in the industry. It’s a security feature because if the company could reset your master password so could anyone who hacks them.
Though I have to give him credit for not going straight to Dashlane because they pay the most and that is why so many other YouTuber push them.
Nothing comes close to Bitwarden, period.
Love Bitwarden. Most complete product in the category. I have been using it for about 10 month and don’t regret the move. Tried multiple other self hosted options such as Secret Server, SafeInCloud sync, Keepass sync. But none of them provide the same cross platform functionality that BW does.
Safe-in-cloud - best app I have ever purchased on Google Play! I’ve been using it for years along with the Windows app and the Chrome extension and I absolutely love it.
lol “respected reviewer”
yeah, no.
If you keep harassing me xorshh , I will report your new account to Reddit as well. It’s agaisnt Reddit policy to bypass bans and restrictions to do the same things that you got banned for.
Hey there, tom spark here.
Most password mangers do give very similar feature sets and overall experiences. I didn’t really go into the details of differences because like I said in the beginning, I didn’t really find it that compelling to list every single tiny difference since most of them are similar enough for day to day use and end users that there isn’t a huge need to review them. Most of the popular ones are similarly quite sufficient. In my video I just discussed some complaints and nit picky details I’ve experienced.
In fact, most of the password manager reviews on YouTube like for 1Password, only have small criticisms such as “no live chat” or no “password change feature”, when these things are super minimal to the overall experience.
I spent more time discussing Bitwarden since I think it’s lower price point, similar featureset, and open source design make it stand out compared to competitors that are closed source, more expensive, and arguably comparable in features.
I do know how to autofill and enable it in the settings, but that isn’t what I was referring to in the video. I apologize for not making that clear. I meant that other options have more icons and instead of right clicking, you can pick from a drop down GUI, where with Bitwarden you can either right click, or choose from the extension icon–neither of which is a huge problem, but a noteable thing in everyday use.
Additionally, LastPass and other password managers do at least provide an option to regain access to your account, like with password hints and other ways. But with Dashlane that isn’t really clear on their site the best way to do so. Even a “forgot password” link that just gives you a form with a part to receive a hint or something would be clearer IMO. But I do see what you mean, and I can see how I made it seem like some password mangers can just reset your password, so thanks for that helpful criticism!
Thanks for review Tom, I enjoy your VPN reviews as well.
Thanks, much appreciated
