Everything was working alright (besides downloads being incredibly slow through VPN connection) until a few days ago. I haven’t changed any settings recently. qBittorrent is connected through my VPN Interface. qBittorrent is still an allowed app through my firewall. I use a lesser known VPN called VeePN which has worked well the last 4 years for me.
All new torrents get stuck on “Downloading metadata”. It finds some hosts and peers but doesn’t actually start anything. If I switch to “Any Interface” and turn my VPN off, it downloads just fine at fast speed. Turn it back on mid-way through a download: it stops completely even with pausing/resuming the torrent or restarting the app.
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling qBittorrent. I tried downgrading the version also. I tried going into my router settings and setting up the listening port as port forwarding and then enabled the port through my firewall. Nothing helped.
Seems like it’s just not connecting to the trackers when I go to the trackers list, labelling them as “Not working” with reasons such as “timed out”, “The requested address is not valid in its context”, “skipping tracker announce (unreachable)” etc. When I turn VPN off: All trackers are found as “Working” and downloads resume as normal.
Any suggestions? My VPN app is up to date with very few settings even available to tweak and again, I haven’t changed any settings.
EDIT: I also contacted VeePN customer support 4 or 5 days ago and while they were extremely quick at responding and updating me nearly every day (even if it was just “We’re still looking into the issue!”), they have thus far been stumped. Nobody on Reddit or even other forums throughout the interweb seem to have any direct resolution.
