Sling TV Blocked

UPDATE 8/20/24 - It appears Express VPN has found a solution as it seems to be working again…for now.*

Woke up this morning and could no longer access the Sling TV app on Apple TV or iPhone (via DNS or ExpressVPN app).

Can log in to Sling on the website and access my account, but receive the same “location error 11-6” when attempting to stream content.

Spent about an hour troubleshooting with ExpressVPN to no avail. This is the first time in many years there hasn’t been a resolution.

Anyone else having this issue? It seems overnight Sling TV have pushed out a pretty aggressive location-based geoblocking patch (or whatever, I’m not a tech guy)…

ETA: Express VPN have reached back out by email to confirm they are also unable to access Sling TV, so it seems we’re down for the count UFN.

same problem. does anybody have any experience with Hulu Live, Youtube TV etc? Since changing VPN doesn’t really work, I am trying to figure out whether switch to another streaming service solves the issue instead…

Yep … same here … no more SlingTV. Sling’s only legal obligation is to block IP addresses that are outside of the USA, not those inside the USA such as ExpressVPN’s IP addresses. Same as you, there has always been a work-around, but not this time. ExpressVPN says that their engineers are working to find a solution. I have a feeling that this aggressive move by Sling will lead to higher subscription costs for their remaining customers that don’t use VPNs for cyber security. Losses are never absorbed by corporate profits nor CEO bonuses. It is now the 3rd day, and ExpressVPN has not found a solution. Time to drop Sling.

The only way that a VPN service could foil Sling is to give every subscriber a unique IP address. Currently, a huge block of VPN subscribers use the same IP address (New York, Seattle, etc.) … which Sling can easily detect due to mass activity on a single IP address.

Have encountered the same thing, unfortunately. It was perfectly normally just last night.

Having the same issue here. Which sucks because the cable provider where I’m located is terrible

I’m having the same problem here also. I searched to see if other folks had it too. I see they do. It’s a drag.

Same issue! I just want to watch all the Olympics stuff I DVRed and now I can’t

Tried Nord too. Didn’t work.

Same problem since Saturday - 17th August. I really don’t want to change VPNs… have it on all my devices. :frowning:

Not working for me either. Is this something they can eventually fith with an update??

Here is today’s (Aug 19th) update from ExpressVPN.

”Q: Any progress by ExpressVPN engineers with a workaround for SlingTV’s recent block of VPN IP addresses? This is Day 3. Thanks for any status update.

A: Claire …Thank you for contacting ExpressVPN Support. My name is Claire. Please give me a few minutes to check the update on our end. Thanks.

Q: OK

A: Claire … Thank you for waiting and I am sorry for the trouble. Upon checking, the issue is still ongoing and our engineers are still working on a fix. We are sorry if it is taking a while, but please be assured that they are working around the clock to restore the service for Sling TV. We sincerely appreciate your patience and kind understanding in this matter.

Just logged onto SlingTV via Expressvpn on now 08/20/24 . Its working !!!

As I’m typing this, it’s seems to be back online, with some kinks—I have it set to New York but my local channels (NBC, ABC & FOX) are all Los Angeles, I’ll give it another day for a full fix!

I can’t even log out to cancel my SlingTV subscription because Sling is catching the VPN. SlingTV let in me a couple of nights ago after messing reinstalling the app and changing the VPN location. I should have cancelled it then but now I really can’t log into my account. LoL.

I don’t understand why sling is so set against having people with VPN’s. I live in canada and pay for Frndly tv around the christmas hoildays for my wife because she loves the hallmark movies. I pay the monthly US fee in CAN dollars. SO if I am paying, what’s the issue? Ridiculous laws?

Same issue. Change to another VPN?

I’d like to know as well my Sling is paid up till 9/11, so I have time to see if they figure it out. Otherwise, time to start some free trials!

Yep, unfortunately my monthly payment just charged a week ago, so they have until the 11th to figure it out or I’m canceling.

Are you aware of any other that still works well (i.e. Hulu or YouTube TV?). I’ve been with Sling for any years, back to before we moved abroad, so I haven’t investigated other services.

Sling is at it again … they blocked VPNs again, and as I predicted above 4 months ago, they would jack up the prices to recoup lost accounts.
