Should Warp use that much data? completely ate up my unlimited plan

got a message saying i almost used all my cellular data, and hasn’t even been a full month and Warp used 40gb???

Ate up your unlimited data plan?

Math isn’t mathing

Take ALL of the other apps and add the data usage for them together. My guess is they’d be roughy equal. All of your traffic is going through WARP when it’s active.

It isn’t Warp using up the 40GB, it’s you using up the 40GB. Warp just reports how much total data was used on the VPN, it barely uses any data itself. Like a different person said, you’re double-counting data. Just assume the 40GB is total cellular data used. For example, the 994MB of Twitch data is already included in the 40GB Warp measurement.

Isnt that a VPN? All data will go through the VPN

That’s what you got for using tiktok

Experience this myself. I’d say with relative certainty that the 1.1.1.1 IOS app isn’t switching to wifi when it’s already established a connection/tunnel on cellular. The phone will switch, you’ll see the wifi symbol but the 1.1.1.1 app will continue to route all traffic over the cellular network.

It’s an issue that impacted a lot of VPN apps years ago but they all fixed it… Cloudflare seems to be seriously lagging here.

Just happened to me here. I reset my stats on iOS cellular and warp shows 1GB of traffic to less than 100mb used by everything else. The idea of no switching to wifi seems pretty sound. This cost me actual money too, so hopefully their support has some answers.

When you use Warp you bypass any optimizations and caching your carrier is doing to reduce your data usage. Instead of 480P video on YouTube and Netflix you can stream 4K if you want. 1 minute of 4K video typically consumes 233MB of data. That same 1 minute of video at 480p is typically just over 9MB of data.

Now, multiply this by all the other apps on your phone that have video and you can easily burn through 40GB of data in a few hours.

that data is the entire usage of all apps when the warp is on !

is there by any chance it is comprised of data transfer to local addresses ?

just had the almost the same experience. I am mostly at home using my wifi (normal fiber unli) and have warp enabled on my phone. Then suddenly all of my phone internet data got used up. Why is Warp using my mobile data when I am connected to the internet through wifi? Is this a normal functionality? I have been using warp for months now and rarely burn my phone internet.

yea when you have an unlimited plan and use too much data your provider will throttle your speeds

In western countries, unlimited isn’t truly unlimited, it my country, it is OK if you use over 1000GB without limiting speeds…and the plan is cheap also

last month i only used roughly 35gb altogether (before warp)

So is it double the data used or just 40gb

yea i know that but the strange thing is i never used more than 40gb before and at the time i didnt even have warp for more than a month.

not sure, and don’t know how to check that

Oh okay that’s what you meant, mb

My plan isn’t unlimited (at least not marketed as one) and all that happens when I’m out is it drops the speed. Sure, to an ungodly 64kb/s, but that’s at least enough to listen to very low-quality audiobooks.
