Router to Router VPN Configuration Assistance Needed for Non-Profit

Hello everyone,

I’m seeking assistance configuring a VPN between two EdgeRouters for a non-profit organization. I have an ER608 at one location and an ER8411 at another, both with dedicated fiber and static IPs.

My goals:

  1. Establish a secure VPN tunnel: Primarily, I need to access the ER608’s network from the ER8411’s location. Accessing the ER8411 network from the ER608 is not as critical.
  2. Route all ER608 traffic through the ER8411: Ideally, all traffic originating from the ER608 would appear to come from the ER8411’s public IP address.
  3. Maintain good performance: The ER608 will support around 5-6 devices, and I’m hoping to achieve speeds of at least 100Mbps over the VPN, if not more.

Considerations:

  • Security is important, but speed is also a factor.
  • I’m willing to upgrade the ER608 to an ER8411 if necessary.
  • I’m learning as I go, so any guidance is greatly appreciated!

Could anyone offer advice on the best VPN configuration for this scenario? Perhaps someone has experience with a similar setup or can point me toward helpful resources.

Thank you in advance for your time and expertise!

Thank you. I thought I would be able to try it this weekend but I wasn’t able to get to it.

What’s the advantage of setting WireGuard vs. IPSec? or is WireGuard IPSec in disguise?

Wireguard is faster, less latency, and easier to setup, altoght “easier” is subjective. On contrast Ipsec should have more encryption choices.

Even both serve the same purposes they are not the same.
