ProtonVPN has a no log policy, so why can I view logs, and why don’t they auto-delete when I close the app? There must be something obvious I’m missing because I can’t imagine that they would lie so carelessly.
Those are client logs to debug if there are issues…
When they say no logs. They mean logs on the server end. Presumably the logs could be wiped by clearing the app cache/storage.
Only you can see those logs.
Those are most likely OpenVPN client side logs.
Those are diagnostic logs. ProtonVPN will only get those if you send it to them. Every VPN will have those.
Aren’t they just debug logs as has been said. Only you have them an if needed, when you contact support, they’ll ask for them in order to diagnose your issue faster. As others have said cleaning the app cache may clean them as well.
Thanks for the detailed answer. I’m on iphone, and I’m not sure how much I should trust apple, (My dad buys apple and I don’t care enough to find the money for a different phone) but even with other applications on my phone, could another company, say apple, google, or facebook be able to get to that just by being on my phone as well? I’m not trying to keep things private on google, I usually use ddg for that, but should I be worried about the app and the contents itself being compromised by something else on my phone?
I apologize I forgot to change to solved thank you though.
tl;dr You should be okay.
Depends on your risk appetite. Apple claims they keep your information private on their devices and I haven’t seen any articles stating that they’re selling your data to advertisers. However they might collect telemetry to identify glitches in iOS etc. There’s no way to tell completely without iOS being made open source. Companies other than Apple shouldn’t be able to see any activity from any other app as iOS should restrict that.
